Outkast? I assume this is some kind of entertainment group (can't call modern groups "bands" as they have no instruments, nor "singers" as they do not sing, they chant or speak in rhythm... musicians I suppose, unless they are of the genre that utilize clips of real bands, musicians and singers and merely chant over the re-mixes... just looked them up on the internet, appears they were on the scene somewhere around 2000-2003 (still never heard of them... some of the pop references in these quizzes are SO specific to a very tiny fraction of the population, but whatever...) They are called a "hip-hop duo" so I guess that answers my naming question. Good quiz, tougher than some of the other letter quizzes have been!
They actually can be classified as a band (what you call a band, at least), because Andre 3000 plays at least a little guitar in some of the songs, and they both vocalize in regards to rap (speedy speech) and pop (actually hitting notes). At the very least, they can be classified as a musical group without reasonable debate.
Considering that 52% of people got that question correct, I wouldn't say it applies to a "tiny fraction" of the population. It wouldn't hurt you to listen to their music. It's amazing.
Down to 43% now and I only got the answer by cheating. If people only listened to them between 2000 and 2003, are they really worthy of a mention on Jetpunk? Beethoven, on the other hand............
You don't know Ms Jackson? I haven't listened to this song in ages nor seen the music video for a while (which used to be on MTV a lot when there was actually music) but I can sing along and tell you exactly what's happening there in the video.
You seem to be very prejudiced when you say you can't call modern groups "bands".
outkast is actually responsible for one of the best selling rap albums of all time. andre 3000 is also a well known actor. he was in 4 brothers, the jimi Hendrix movie and semi pro
I never heard of Outkast, either. From the clues Big Boi and Andre 3000 I assumed they had something to do with video games. "Will Outerspace Cadets play on both the Big Boi and Andre 3000 gaming systems, or do I have to play it on my old Andre 2000?" Current music and video games - neither are in my wheelhouse, but thank you for the moment of enlightenment.
They are a Grammy award winning band. Rap and hip-hop music have been mainstream for decades. The song "Hay ya" was even used by the Bravo network as a theme song for a while when it was a the top of the charts and Bravo was still fairly respectable. There is no reason to act like not knowing who they are is something to be proud of. It just sounds mean and dismissive to the millions of people who do like them or their form of music.
Rap and hip-hop may have been mainstream for decades, but they were just becoming popular when my youngest child was in college and had already moved to his own apartment so I didn't really hear that type of music enough to know who was singing what. My tastes run to '50s and '60s music, jazz, classical, and country - when it was really country. I don't care for a lot of the stuff from today, and I agree none of us should be belittled for our preferences, including those of us who prefer not to listen to "mainstream" music.
Agree wholly with kinjapan. By acting like they're so obscure when in reality they are not just serves to make you seem ignorant and clueless, to be quite honest
Since currently the stat for them is 43% percent, I wouldn't say "everyone" knows their songs. I may have heard the song "Hey ya" at some point but if I did I had no idea what it was called or who sang it. I'm not acting elitist or putting down anyone who likes them, just saying that everyone here has their own preferences. I have no problem learning new things but I just don't care for hip-hop or rap.
The dictionary may be on your side with the technical definition of "group", but I hope I never catch you in polite society using that term for only two people.
when it is written differently in most other languages yes. We say hobo I tried obo, hobo, hobou, oubo oubou oubo... Didnt end up getting it... you try doing it in another language when you have never come across the written version and only heard the spoken version a few times... I bet you ll fail... so get of your high horse.
You need to accept that there isnt. In english yes, but more language do exist you know. And before the arguments come this quiz is in english, yes it is, and therefore the correct answer is the english spelling.
But the comment written in english above mine is incorrect, you need to accept english is not the only excisting language, and if you write something please try to be correct.
Hey if you are gonna be difficult so can I. If you make a point out of it for the other be correct, so will I. Let's be fastidious together.
I had that for shakespeare play for a sec, I thought uuhh opus? then I guess he means the title of a play. But since it didnt say "a" shakespeare play. My mind kept disagreeing haha and refused to think of plays and keep reading it the other way for a while. Eventhough I was pertty sure that wasnt what was required.
