For the Mayflower one, why not just make it November 11, 1620- Mayflower (first) makes landfall in Massachusetts? It's not known when the Mayflower actually landed in Plymouth Harbor, and it might have not been until 1621 anyway. (Also, while Plymouth Rock makes for a nice tourist attraction, there's no historical proof they landed on that rock.)

Truth be told Plymouth Rock does not even make for a particularly nice tourist attraction, particularly given the wealth of historical attractions that are actually worthwhile in the area.

The poor people do the all the fighting in war. They're hard to beat.
+1
Level 93

Very much ongoing as poverty went from around 19% to 15% in a short time and more or less stayed there (although it seems there has been a big improvement for over 65s https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_on_Poverty).

What did the Yankees buy - some field or plot of land, some stadium in New York? Oh, yeah, it's legal for ball teams to buy and sell people. Finally got it after way too much overthinking it.

Some of these are very strange as "historical events" - the invention of basketball, the Babe Ruth question.

They are historical, but maybe not historic.

I've been to Wounded Knee. It's still a stark, sad place, located in one of the poorest counties in the US. We visited it the day after seeing the Custer Monument at Little Bighorn. Quite a contrast, although some historians are now saying the Wounded Knee massacre wasn't necessarily in retaliation for Little Bighorn but due to other reasons. The damaged, locally-run Wounded Knee center also stands as a monument to the occupation and shootings of the Wounded Knee Incident in 1973.

It was because they wouldn't sign away land full of valuprecious metals the U.S. just plain wanted.

I'm not an expert on the subject, but it didn't play out as revenge n the HBO movie I watched about the massacre, and coming so many years later it seems like an odd conclusion to make that it was otherwise.

The LBJ one was tricky, at least for me. All I could think of was Vietnam, and I knew that we never officially declared war on Vietnam. I was racking my brains trying to think of a country!

I asked my husband and he answered it immediately. Once he said the answer I had to laugh because it seemed so obvious then.
