Guess this shows me to only do quizzes based off of what I know. Me having never played Risk before, and getting a few countries right off the bat made me think every answer was a country. Hah, boy was I wrong. Well, time to go learn about this classic.
Craziest game of Risk I ever played....won by wiping out 5 other players in a single turn. Targeted 1 player, got their Risk cards, had to turn in again, and saw I could take another player out. Got THEIR Risk cards....etc., etc.
When I used to play Risk a lot in high school, I had the opposite problem. Lots of players wanted to be cautious and build up their forces to avoid being steamrolled, so no one ever did much attacking. The worst is when two players would strike a deal to leave one country undefended and just keep trading it back and forth to build up cards. Eventually I would get so bored that I would attack someone just to get the game moving, and then of course I would end up the first one out. But since we were often on our second day of play by that time, I was all too happy to get out of the game.
Keeping in mind that the game is 60+ years old, and was designed with an 18th or 19th century aesthetic (the infantry units have fancy uniforms like were in fashion in warfare at that time, plus the horsemen and artillery cannons), the map makes a lot more sense viewed through that lens. But it definitely looks off in comparison to the modern day world map.
As someone who has never even seen a Risk board, I was really surprised by how well I did. I knew the names of the three eastern Russian areas, but the rest was guesswork. I missed Northern Europe and North Africa because I viewed them as central and western respectively. I'm also pretty sure I typed Alberta, but I must've made a typo. Nevertheless, 37/42 is about double the expected amount of hits. Could someone please explain to me why that big one in eastern Europe is called Ukraine instead of Russia?
Not a bad game but not great; simpler than the games I usually enjoy playing, but more complex than Monopoly or Pictionary or the board games that the average person might enjoy playing.
Risk is decent, but the idea has been improved upon since the game came out. Many of the other versions of Risk (2210 A.D., Godstorm, or any of the licensed ones like Star Wars or Lord of the Rings) improve upon the basic game and fix many of its flaws. Plus there are other "world conquest" board games that approach the idea differently and are also pretty good.
Why is the island of Ireland included in Great Britain??? Northern Ireland may be part of the United Kingdom (of Great Britain and Northern Ireland) but the rest of the island - the Republic of Ireland - isn't part of any of it. Downright insult!!
The game seems to be set a couple centuries ago, when war consisted of infantry in fancy uniforms, horse-mounted cavalry, and cannons on wheels. At that time, Ireland was ruled by Britain, was it not?
New Zealand is a couple of hours flight East and a little South of Australia. The Falkland Islands are a couple of hundred miles east of southern Argentina
Personally, on my board, I have Thailand as Southeast Asia (though I didn't type it in, could be a type-in), Quebec is Eastern Canada, and Congo is Central Africa.
I've only actually finished playing Risk if there was only two others playing. If there was four players or more, we soon got sick of playing because it takes so long. (Kinda like Monopoly)
Ah, Risk! Brings back memories. Other than the random die rolls deciding everything important in a 'strategy' game, and the player elimination mechanic and the map imbalances and quirks, it's not that bad... but there are better options to choose from.
Never played Risk, but got most of them, although some required a bit of imagination to get. No luck on Afghanistan for obvious reasons. Also why to frozen expanses of nothing get heaps of divisions, while India and (most) of China are in just one each?
This isn't based on real life and like jojo said you need places to put pieces. If you play Risk you'll realize that you can't play with a territory the size of South Korea.
I never played english Risk. In the Brazilian version (it's called WAR) the US is devided in 'California' and 'New York'; Europe has the name of countries, not regions; Indonesia is devided in Sumatra, Borneo and Papua; Australia is whole and Russia has different names
Hey buddy we're trying to play a game here...
Excludes: Afghanistan
Lol
Also am I the only one who thinks that North Africa should be changed to West Africa?
