I would like to mention that it's no shame to not know states lol. I understand that countries are important to know but who really cares about states and provinces that much outside this website haha?

Im not American but got 50/50 for the states 😊😊😊

Well Im British and I wonder, do you know any of the 48 counties of England, 22 counties of Wales, 33 counties of Scotland and 6 counties of Northern Ireland. In total, there are 109 counties in the UK. The states would be the four countries. There are no counties of Scotland quiz but 32 councils instead on this site.

I spent 3 months in Mexico and most Mexicans seemed to think the US consisted of Texas, New York, California, and Miami. When we told them we were from Alabama they would just look at us funny, clearly having no idea what Alabama is. I bet most of them can't name 8 states is my point.

I encounter people from many countries, and Mexico most especially, that know a lot of American geography because they have family there. The average Mexican probably has at least one family member in at least 20 different states.

I would wager that more Mexicans can name US states than vice versa. After all, once they get here they'll need to be able to get around! I don't know of many Americans who dream of emigrating to Mexico....
+6
Level 68
Mar 22, 2017
Most Mexicans actually don't want to immigrate to the United States. In fact, in 2014, more people moved into Mexico from the United States than vice versa, mostly Mexicans who had previously moved to United States. My point is, most Mexicans probably cannot name American states because they could care less about their northern neighbour, even if the US is the most powerful country in the world.

The years that you could say that, Jiao, were highly anomalous. While it is true that most people in Mexico don't want to move to the US. Most people everywhere don't want to move anywhere. People by nature tend to not want to move.

You can borrow maps from other quizzes, but I don't think there is any quiz that features a map of Ukrainian regions so you would have to make it yourself. I don't know how to do that, though.

If you're not including Mexico D.F. in the answers, you may want to have it filled in at the beginning. I know you wrote it in the directions, but it still took my tired self a few seconds to figure out what I was doing wrong.

Got Chihuahua, Baja California, Mexico by trying to type 'Mexico city'

Managed to think of Spanish word for new to get Nuevo Leon

Tried Tlateleco, Tlacopan, Texcoco before finally seizing on Tlaxcala

Ashamed of not getting Veracruz, Durango, Tabasco, Hidalgo, Sonora, Chiapas Oaxaca or Yucatan.. Though I spent a lot of time trying to translate some names into Spanish

The distinction is that if you live in a country you naturally pick up knowledge of its geography, but to learn the geography of a different country you have to go out of your way to try to learn it. For many of us Americans this quiz is the first time we've ever tried to learn the Mexican states. (Although a depressingly high number of Americans know nothing about their own country's geography, either.)

how do you pronounce Tlaxcala? is the T silent ?
+3
Level 72
Dec 23, 2020
I may be wrong, but I think it's halfway between 'tl' and 'cl' at the start - put the front half of your tongue on the roof of your mouth and try to say the 't' sound without dropping your tongue down (so the air is pushed out from the back of the tongue), then drop the tongue down normally to make the 'l' sound. Then just add -ashkala.

Maybe a Mexican will correct me, but I know the 't' isn't silent at least.
