I thought this was a great quiz! 18/18 Second Try, the Venetian Republic was a bit tricky, never heard of it before. But I personally think the best learning comes from trial and error. Just curious, isn't the Carthaginian Empire as big as some of these countries (Out of curiosity, no correction intended)? Also, why do the Babylonian and the Assyrian Empires have a "Neo" with a hyphen before the name?
Fun quiz; a few tweaks might be useful. IMO it should take "Soviet" for USSR; "Charlemagne" and "Carolingian" for Frankish (just as it accepts "Alexander" for Macedonian); and "Mogul" for Mughal. But on the other hand, right now it accepts "caliphate" for "Abassid caliphate," although there were four caliphates over a 1300-year period. (The Abassid was the second and the Ottoman was the fourth.) Since a caliphate is just a territory ruled by a caliph, that's maybe a bit broad -- kinda like saying "empire" or "kingdom" and having it auto-fill the right empire or kingdom :-)
Well I always get confused with muslim caliphates so I just tried arab (hoping arabic empire or caliphate would get me somewhere, though I didn't expect too much) and it got me abbasid caliphate... I think it's a little too easy that way because as you mentioned there are multiple caliphates and I may have been able to remember abbasid, but it's far from certain...
I couldn't think what the caliphate was so I didn't get it. Really annoyed that just 'caliphate' would've worked, and it definitely shouldn't. And as for accepting 'Arab' ... smh
Very enjoyable quiz. Pretty easy if you're like me and waste a lot of time looking at historical maps. I only got stuck for a bit trying to remember the right name for "the one that Charlemagne ruled."
Well I suppose that from a muslim perspective France, the HRE and such were all called Frank kingdoms... But still the HRE is more like a state that emerged from the Frankish Empire rather than the frankish empire itself.
I was about to say this - or the date is wrong. At least the Netherlands had been independent for centuries by 1800! It is possible that the map shows every territory they ever had, and the date is simply when the empire reached its greatest extent, but that wasn't clear to me.
Thank you for this interesting quiz - it was fun, while both forcing me to remember my teenage history lessons and highlighted some gaps in my knowledge.
Yugoslava is the hot mineral sludge that leaks from the front end of Serbian-produced 1980s compact cars after the timing belt fails and the engine overheats and explodes.
Could accept "Habsburg empire", "Habsburg realms" or just "Habsburg" for Austria-Hungary, because it's referred to by that name quite often here in Europe, but a very good quiz!
Mughals were technically Mongols because the word Mughal itself is an alternate spellings of the Mongols. When we trace the ancestry before babur, it traces to Timur, then the khans of Mongolia. But nevertheless the Mughals can be counted as another Dynasty as they were confined to India.. kind of like Indian mongol Empire
I knew it was venice holdings but didn't really know how it was called at the time :s
I kid, but the point stands there are better empires to use for the quiz to avoid conflation
