Okra is a member of the mallow or Malvaceae family along with cotton and hollyhocks. Although once considered part of the lily family, chives are now a member of the Amaryllidaceae family along with other alliums. Alliums were split apart from the Liliaceae in the APG III Classification system. Asparagus has also been split off of the lily family and is now in Asparagaceae.
