Seneca the Younger
Naturalist, compiled much of his knowledge into the 'naturalis historia' which became a blueprint for future encyclopedias. Died whilst undertaking a rescue mission during the eruption of mount Vesuvius.
Pliny the elder
Wrote an 80 volume history of Rome the 'Historia Romana', much of which survives to this day.
