When I typed 'hockey' I expected to get hockey not ice hockey. So to get hockey you have to type 'field hockey'. You type the word 'field' you get track and field so you have to type 'field' again followed by 'hockey'.. Not ideal.. Otherwise, all good.

In the U.S., ice hockey is a far more popular sport than field hockey, especially at the collegiate level. Therefore, when most people think "hockey," they think ice hockey. For example, the NHL is the "National Hockey League," not the "National Ice Hockey League" while the American field hockey organization is USA Field Hockey and there is a National Field Hockey League. Very few would think field hockey when they say "hockey."

I only think of real hockey when I hear 'hockey'. I need the 'ice' distinction to think of ice hockey.

Real hockey is ice hockey. Field hockey is what you play when there isn't enough ice to play hockey.

When it's about the NCAA, it's allowed to privilege US terminology. By the way, what's the most prestigious (field) hockey league in the world? I've never seen the game played, outside the Olympics and my Phys. Ed. class. As a North American sports fan, I've watched my fair share of rugby and cricket, but I've never seen or heard of any professional (field) hockey leagues or major international competitions, Olympics aside.

I think the easiest would be to either accept "hockey" for both, or require people to type "ice hockey" and "field hockey".

I never realized that bowling was a women's only sport. That's really odd. Especially when there are 3 men's only sports and 4 women's only sports and Title 9 is a thing...I figured that bowling was a men's AND women's sport.

Didn't think of wrestling. Tried boxing and when that didn't work moved on to something else. Is it a stretch to accept boxing for it? I honestly don't know the difference. I was under the impression that wrestling is an umbrella term for many things. I even tried martial arts.

My son was a wrestler in high school, and it is definitely not the same thing as boxing. In wrestling you try to throw your opponent to the ground and hold him/her there with various holds and moves, while in boxing you try to punch him/her with your fists. Punching is not allowed in collegiate wrestling.

At the high school, college, and Olympic levels, the sport referred to as rifle. Sharpshooting is a specific skill or classification level, above Marksman and below Expert. Given how few people even knew the sport, I'd give you partial credit.

It's only administered by the NCAA for women. Men's rowing isn't, because it has its own governing body which is independent of NCAA.

It's almost completely a Title 9 thing. A lot of major universities were/are giving out scholarships to any female with a little bit of athletic ability so they could get closer to compliance. Even if they had never stuck an oar in a the water before.

Beach Volleyball is another Title 9 add on. It needs to be added to the list.

And I don't want to make my comments sound like I am a chauvinist. Just hate the idea of how Title 9 has been implemented and the equal support rules, that have gutted just about all scholarships to men's teams outside of football and basketball.

These colors are really confusing. The pink color lead me to believe those were women's only events however the pink stands for both genders are able to participate and they grey is for events that are available only to women. I believe this should be flipped.

This may have been updated since, but the colour for men is a light blue, for women is a light pink, and for both is magenta, a colour that, at least in RGB colour is a combination of red and blue in equal amounts

Rowing and Bowling are more both gendered sports. Not just woman.

While men and women both participate in bowling and rowing, men's bowling and crew (rowing) are not official NCAA sports. For example, men's crew is organized by the Intercollegiate Rowing Association. The reason apparently lies in Title IX which requires equal opportunities for the genders. Football's huge rosters necessitate more opportunities for women and fewer for men in other sports; having a male counterpart to each women's sport would make that impossible. Another factor may be that men's collegiate crew competition predates the NCAA, although that could also be said for a few other sports.

Indoor Track and Field and Outdoor Track and Field are two separate sports. They each have their own seasons and championships.

So what do the colors represent? Blue is men's sports for sure, but why are there two shades of pink?

Light pink is sports that only have women's division. The brighter pink is for sports that both sexes play.

The NCAA administers beach volleyball separately from indoor volleyball. The scholarships are different and beach volleyball is a female only sport while indoor volleyball has female teams in the fall and male teams in the spring.
