Another quiz where i'd love to see the split between the scores of those who take the quiz and are from North America and those from the rest of the world. I suspect the latter would score a lot lower.

Agreed. I was fairly pleased with 6/10 in that time.

I'm from germany and had 9/10. I assumed, that the states in the west of the US are the newest. But I missed Oklahoma.

Oklahoma was reserved as Native American territory for a long time, which is why it became a state a lot later than the other states in that region.

Yeah, California and Oregon joined pretty early...

It's really not too difficult, once you realise that the western/harder to settle states are generally newer. That being said I didn't have much time left on the clock when I finished.

I only knew Hawaii and Alaska for certain aswell, had to guess the rest. Though I knew to avoid the east and texas and california.

That doesnt immediately make it easy like someone mentioned above, cause then you have to know which ones are there. Knowing where they are is actually the easy part (for a non USAer) not "once you know it is in the west it's easy"

Is it just me or does it feel like every comment from this guy mentions somewhere that he's not from America?

I'm not american and I got 9/10 on first try. It's pretty intuitive really, you put Alaska and Hawaii that are obvious and try western states. If you know the states you should get at least 9 of them pretty easily.

The only one I didn't get was Oklahoma, no idea why it took so long.

The Mormons were in Utah in 1847.They actually wanted land stretching all the way to where modern day Los Angeles is and was gonna call it Deseret.

Instead they got about what Utah is and most of what Nevada is. They had a governor of this Utah territory by 1850. They got way less cause Feds wanted the gold in Cali and the silver in Carson City area.

Nevada got its statehood in 1864 cutting Utah Territory in half. Utah was denied statehood cause they were practicing polygamy which was against federal law.

After the civil war there was federal intervention removing Brigham Young and his 50 wives from power. The new LDS leader Wilford Woodruff in 1890 made a manifesto against polygamy and so became state 1896.

Fun fact: we are currently in the longest period without a new state (64 years). It doesn't look like that'll change anytime soon.
