So if countries that are "undetectable" have not been considered...Why do I get Mauritius and Nauru and minuscule islands that you could never see on this map? Even when you zoom in, how do you know to look for countries like that?
To be fair, it was becáuse of the caveat/description that I missed some of the smaller ones. Didnt look for/at them because I assumed they would be excluded.
The quiz is fine (before I get hatemail just because of sharing my experience, which seems to be the trend lately, so you need to apologize in advance that you didnt mean it like that.. people jump at any chance they get to leave snide remarks it seems..) it just ironically had the opposite effect for me of what was intended, because usually I actually wóuld be sure to not overlook the smaller countries
Cool, didnt expect that. Didnt read the caveat this time, I think I remembered (2nd round) I need to check for lighter spots around Africa. And actually had to count how many "sports" there were in Oceania, because I couldnt tell you of the top of my head beforehand (without listing them in my head).
Finally got em all 6th run... kept getting stuck around 17/18 because of those darn Oceania islands ;) (Oceaniac? ah Oceanian I think :))
Oceania has 11... top row is Palau, FSM, Nauru, Marshall Islands, Kiribati. 2nd row is Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, Samoa. 3rd row is Vanuatu, Fiji, Tuvalu.
Awesome quiz!!! I think I have played it 50 times this week and kept getting 18, 19, 18, 19.... Beat it today! All 20 and 1:11 to spare. Thank you - love this!
Really? We're supposed to be able to spot a super tiny island, Seychelles, in this way to small map in the middle of the ocean and is next to anything for reference? Sure, you can one click it larger, but you would never be able to find it in the time allowed
It's pretty easy with the light water. There should be three island countries around Madagascar and if there isn't, one of them is an answer. You shouldn't have to zoom in for that—it's larger than some other countries like Rwanda.
Yea pretty easy to see if one of the islands is missing if you know how many there are. With the light blue around them they are not that small at all, bigger than switzerland or belgium for instance (and many others in europe). Interesting the ones people decide to complain about.
Ten tries later, finally got it! Sure, I should use this as an opportunity to learn to tell apart the South Pacific nations, but it's much easier to just type all of them every time, and some random Caribbean ones, too. Then I start looking for the countries that are distinguishable.
Doesnt it make more sense to do it the other way around? what if there are non in oceania and the caribbean, then you wasted all you time typing all those countries.
Kiribati is huge. If you know what to look for you will find it. Cape Verde and São Tome and Príncipe are more tricky as they are island nations that are all alone.
I am loving this puzzle. It's made me focus on Oceania and exactly where everything else, which I wasn't all that sure of before. I'm used to just running down the list of islands and letting them populate. Practice makes perfect - 1:11 left this time! Hurray!
I've taken this quiz very many times, really helps you learn geography. A few countries never seem to be missing - Cyprus, Lebanon and Djibouti. Wondering why as other very small countries are regularly missing?
Yes, those countries are undetectable, at least without zooming in specifically. Several other smaller nations have been omitted, such as the Lesser Antilles and Europe microstates. Would you be interested in a version that includes all countries (except micronations)?
Yea I think cyprus is just as visible ( if not more) and noticeable if it is missing as haiti. (which is even trickier, because it still has half of its island there).
I wasnt aware that they were excluded, every round I started by checking if malta and cyprus were still there haha. (Then african islands and maldives, then iceland and new zealand, they are easy to overlook when missing. Then I check for other obvious missing countries, then I count oceania, but remain clueless in that region haha)
I love this quiz so much - the best one I've done on the site I think. I've done it so many times and it's still fairly tricky, and helps me consolidate my knowledge of the countries' names
I became strangely obsessed with this quiz, practising it every day, first to solve it and then to improve my time. Today I hit 25 seconds - possible only because the randomiser threw up a string of 4 & 5-letter countries, no 'stans, no islands, and both Congos, which gives you two answers for the price of one! Thanks for the entertainment
I usually look for 5 island micronations in Africa, 2 on the west coast (Sao Tome and Cape Verde) and 3 on the east (Comoros, Mauritius, Seychelles).
Oceania can definitely be tricky, but you can see the small islands in rows of 3-2-3-3. Nauru would be the first country in the 2nd row, or specifically for Nauru you can look for a tiny dot next to the "large area" of Kiribati.
The first time i started geography, Someone in our school mentioned JetPunk. I was blank by even hearing that name. He said try it out. I started first with my Countries of the world quiz. But i couldn't even name a single country in Africa... I got interested and tried other quizzes. To be exact this was my first 6th quiz to try out. Thanks to these type of quizzes, everyone can learn something everyday. Thanks, Quizzer6794
Some of the best quizzes, Sometimes in these types my eyes are very sharp, well I some of the 6% who have completed this. Thanks for the quiz Quizzer6794.
Yes - I couldn't see what was missing - apparently UK, but it wasn't. And I had the Kosovo problem before. Shame, this was my favourite quiz - please fix it.
Sorry this was my fault - we're currently updating quizzes to use the new world map, and I forgot to update the associated path ids for UK, Kosovo and Dominican Republic.
I wouldn't recommend a randomized version like this. For most of the time, really noticeable countries are removed. Therefore, the quiz can be REALLY EASY.
Ha! I got Kiribati, Maldives, Iceland, Nauru, Sao Tome and Principe, Jamaica, and Taiwan all on the same turn! So many islands, it's a good thing I know my world map!
Yeah, I have no clue where any of those are (other than Kiribati), so I just count. If there's 11, there are none missing. If less, I type them at random until I get them. You'd think after a while, I'd remember where they are, but nope.
Fiji has two big islands you can actually see. Solomon Islands are the closest to Papua New Guinea. Vanuatu are below them. Tonga is above NZ. Samoa is above Tonga. Pretty easy really, when you practise.
Yeah, Malawi is tough because its absence basically just makes Lake Malawi look bigger. Rwanda and Burundi are tough too, especially if both are missing, because it just looks like another African Great Lake.
I had hard ones which where Kosovo, Zimbabwe, Jamaica, Seychelles, Tuvalu, Saudi Arabia, United Kingdom, Greece, Slovakia, Equatorial Guinea, Panama, Micronesia, Madagascar, Suriname, Australia, Mongolia, Czech Republic, Papua New Guinea, Algeria, El Salvador
I've attempted this a very large number of times (as I find it so addictive!), but for some reason it seems that Bhutan is never one of the missing countries. 🤔
Somehow, I got Germany, Austria, and Czech Republic all missing. I thought that Germany had lost Austria, Sudetenland, and Bohemia and Moravia a long while ago...
I got all 20 of the 20 missing countries. The last one was hard to spot. The last one is South Korea, or R.O.K . When I saw something and said: is there anything here? Then I saw R.O.K. and made the amlunt 20. I did all of it.
I just had one that had Russia, Canada, China, Mexico, Mongolia, Peru, Saudi Arabia, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Venezuela, Botswana, Syria, Cameroon, Malaysia, Uruguay, Bangladesh, Portugal, Croatia, and Belgium. I cannot believe it.
I know you don't get item-level stats for randomized quizzes, but I think it would be really interesting to see which countries (when missing) are easiest and hardest to notice.
I almost forgot Demark, with the enormous land of Greenland missing, but got Jamaica, the Netherlands and Belgium, and I then totally forgot Madagascar? I'm helpless.
4th try: I got them allllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love this quiz--one of my favorites. Without increasing the time allowed, please consider adding these very visible countries in: Timor Leste, Djibouti, Qatar, Cyprus. Thanks!
any stats nerds care to work out how likely it is that all of south america would be missing? because i feel like i've taken it enough times for that to happen, i love this quiz so much. my relentless speedrun attempts over lockdown finally took my fastest time down to 19 seconds but one day i will come back and lower it. thank you so much!
My back of the envelope calculations put the probability of a South American country appearing in this quiz at about 70%. However, I have a success rate in mathematics of about 7%.
Certainly NOT random. To creator, consider alternative algorithm, maybe one using a true random number generator versus an alphabetical list? As it is, it seems the countries that touch each other are favored to occur together, as are small nations near coasts, I guess to make things challenging.
Got to 20 on about 10th try, though got very close (18-19) on every attempt. A few tips for those who cannot get through this quiz... After a few tries you get the idea of the common suspects that trip people up: island countries, small countries by the coasts (oceans and inland lakes/seas) like Kuwait, Djibuti, Azerbeijan, El salvador, and all those tiny island nations around Africa and Oceania. You can reload until you get all or nearly all Oceania countries.
Love this quiz, and finally got the right mix to be able to get all 20. Some of those smaller countries are hard to spot, but that's what makes it fun. Thankfully I have yet to encounter an iteration that includes Monaco, San Marino, Vatican City, Singapore, Grenada, Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, St. Kitts, Dominica, or Antigua. :-P (I suspect they aren't included in the options.)
heeeeey lesotho is an island yay now no supply shortages (not meant to be offensive) but now lesotho makes their own decisions without being influenced by south africa
Having mastered this now to the stage that I get 20/20 on a daily basis, could you re-program to add St Lucia,Trinidad, Grenada etc - they never come up. I know Malta comes up, but does Cyprus?
It's kinda cool to think what would happen if 20 random countries just disappeared off the face of the planet. How the map would change, with big countries like Canada, Russia,
the US, and China gone, and how that would affect politics and the world in general.
This quiz is difficult. Your eyes can't really miss anything, and you have to be aware that some islands that may not look missing may be off the map. After many tries, I finally got it! Common Scambigol W.
I love this quiz. I won't even say how many times I've taken it, but I've only managed 100% three times. I can't believe that I can stare at the map until time runs out and not see the fact that a major country is missing (Italy). It's understandable to miss Malta or Belize, but Italy?!
Finally got em all 6th run... kept getting stuck around 17/18 because of those darn Oceania islands ;) (Oceaniac? ah Oceanian I think :))
I actually have to turn off the timer to play this since I'm dumb that way. But love this quiz so much - could play for an hour that way.
Learning!

damn you el salvador!!!!!!!!!
Some countries you can hardly see but i learned to zoom.
The only one i missed was Samoa. Sigh.
