When I did it, Azerbaijan and Georgia were missing and Armenia looked all jacked up. Is this the borders their government claims to have or an error in the map?

Thanks! I've increased the difficulty by allowing all countries that can be seen without the use of zoom, although zooming would make some countries much easier to spot.

Good quiz, although in my opinion small island nations should be excluded. tried twice, only ones I missed were Palau, Nauru & Maldives in 2 attempts.
+2
Level 62
Nov 26, 2019
Small island nations are still very visible from the light water, so they shouldn't be excluded for their difficulty alone
+1
Level 68
Nov 26, 2019
Gotta agree with @RKS, I had Maldives, Tonga, Solomon Islands and Micronesia. It's blinking hard to work out which south Pacific Island nations are missing. Maldives is slightly easier but those countries that barely show up are by definition very difficult to spot.
+2
Level 62
Nov 26, 2019
I could remove Nauru, Tonga, and Samoa at most, but ones like Maldives are so far away from other islands that's they're unmistakably there. All countries in the pool can be detected without difficulty, it's just a matter of whether or not you know their locations well enough to be able to spot it.
+5
Level 66
Nov 26, 2019
It would be a much boringer quiz if thode countries were not included. I don't need a quiz to be 'fixed' just so I can solve it easier. Some quizzes just are challenging, this is one of them and I love it!
+1
Level 66
Nov 26, 2019
I even think the lesser antilles should be included too. Would be a great way to better learn their locations. This quiz made me much stronger on my southern pacific :D
+1
Level 62
Nov 26, 2019
I think the Lesser Antilles is out of the question because you'd need to zoom and look extremely close to see those countries. However, you can learn the Lesser Antilles on the Americas Map version :)

@QM, yes, I got the Maldives, as you say it is easy to spot its absence. I do think the South Pacific Island groups are worth looking at again. As for @Gustavhansa's suggestion, I'm not sure where to start with that. I don't think Jetpunk lets me use the phrase I want to.

So if countries that are "undetectable" have not been considered...Why do I get Mauritius and Nauru and minuscule islands that you could never see on this map? Even when you zoom in, how do you know to look for countries like that?
+1
Level 62
Dec 1, 2019
Mauritius is detectable if you're looking out for 5 small island countries in Africa ;)
+1
Level 66
Dec 5, 2019
To be fair, it was becáuse of the caveat/description that I missed some of the smaller ones. Didnt look for/at them because I assumed they would be excluded.

The quiz is fine (before I get hatemail just because of sharing my experience, which seems to be the trend lately, so you need to apologize in advance that you didnt mean it like that.. people jump at any chance they get to leave snide remarks it seems..) it just ironically had the opposite effect for me of what was intended, because usually I actually wóuld be sure to not overlook the smaller countries

+1
Level 62
Dec 10, 2019
That's a fair point - I've edited the caveat to give detail about which countries are included.
+1
Level 66

Cool, didnt expect that. Didnt read the caveat this time, I think I remembered (2nd round) I need to check for lighter spots around Africa. And actually had to count how many "sports" there were in Oceania, because I couldnt tell you of the top of my head beforehand (without listing them in my head).

Finally got em all 6th run... kept getting stuck around 17/18 because of those darn Oceania islands ;) (Oceaniac? ah Oceanian I think :))

Really? We're supposed to be able to spot a super tiny island, Seychelles, in this way to small map in the middle of the ocean and is next to anything for reference? Sure, you can one click it larger, but you would never be able to find it in the time allowed

Yea pretty easy to see if one of the islands is missing if you know how many there are. With the light blue around them they are not that small at all, bigger than switzerland or belgium for instance (and many others in europe). Interesting the ones people decide to complain about.

Ten tries later, finally got it! Sure, I should use this as an opportunity to learn to tell apart the South Pacific nations, but it's much easier to just type all of them every time, and some random Caribbean ones, too. Then I start looking for the countries that are distinguishable.

I've taken this quiz very many times, really helps you learn geography. A few countries never seem to be missing - Cyprus, Lebanon and Djibouti. Wondering why as other very small countries are regularly missing?
+1
Level 62
Jan 24, 2020
Yes, those countries are undetectable, at least without zooming in specifically. Several other smaller nations have been omitted, such as the Lesser Antilles and Europe microstates. Would you be interested in a version that includes all countries (except micronations)?
+1
Level 82
Jan 30, 2020
I don't need a new version. On my monitor, however, these countries are just as detectable without zooming as say Malta, Israel or Equatorial Guinea.
+1
Level 66
Mar 9, 2020
Yea I think cyprus is just as visible ( if not more) and noticeable if it is missing as haiti. (which is even trickier, because it still has half of its island there).

I wasnt aware that they were excluded, every round I started by checking if malta and cyprus were still there haha. (Then african islands and maldives, then iceland and new zealand, they are easy to overlook when missing. Then I check for other obvious missing countries, then I count oceania, but remain clueless in that region haha)

I became strangely obsessed with this quiz, practising it every day, first to solve it and then to improve my time. Today I hit 25 seconds - possible only because the randomiser threw up a string of 4 & 5-letter countries, no 'stans, no islands, and both Congos, which gives you two answers for the price of one! Thanks for the entertainment
