(US) A hole in one, i.e., a hole that is completed by sinking the ball in a single shot or attempt, with one hit.

Three under par on any one hole, except a par 3 hole.

Albatross
Any shot, normally not when teeing off, aimed to land on the green, hit for accuracy more than power.

Approach (shot)
The completion of a hole one stroke below par.

Birdie
A score of one over par on a hole.

Bogey
A hazard on a golf course consisting of a sand-filled hollow.

Bunker
An approach shot made from a location a short distance from the golf green in which the ball is launched into the air with only low or moderate force, so that it will land on the green and roll toward the hole.

Chip (shot)
A torn-up piece of turf, especially by a golf club in making a stroke.

Divot
A golf club used to propel the ball a great distance.

Driver
A player having little skill.

Duffer
A score of two under par for a hole.

Eagle
The area between the tee and the green, where the grass is cut short.

Fairway
A tap-in putt, usually a couple inches from the cup.

Gimme
The part of a golf course near the hole.

A sand or water obstacle on a golf course.

Hazard
A subsurface standard-size cavity, also called cup, hitting the ball into which is the object of play.

The terrain and conditions surrounding the ball before it is struck.

Lie
An unpenalized chance to re-take a stroke that went awry.

Mulligan
The area outside the perimeter of a golf course, usually marked by stakes or a fence; or, a description of a ball that lands in that area.

Out of bounds
The allotted number of strokes to reach the hole.

The act of tapping a golf ball lightly on a green.

Putt
The unmowed part of a golf course.

Rough
A golfer who feigns incompetence, often to win bets, and frequently by inflating their handicap.

Sandbagger
The teeing area where play begins for a hole of golf.

Tee box
A type of iron club used for short, high trajectories.
