No but it is easy to make that mistake as Germany does have red and yellow next to each other on its flag

Wow. I'm German and I'm aware that we call it "Schwarz-Rot-Gold", but to argue that it's not yellow must be some sort of record, even for this page.
+2
Level 34
Apr 7, 2021
you're right but fun fact: it's supposed to be gold instead of yellow. they couldn't make it gold because producing golden textile hasn't been possible apparently BUT when the flag is specifically described as black-red-gold in documents/samples or whatever they actually do put up a flag with something that looks like gold instead of yellow.

Isn't gold just a specific shade of yellow?
+1
Level 68
Oct 8, 2023
It's also the heraldic name for yellow (although, in that case, the flag should be described as sable-gueules-or...).

Ben82192: Not on the national flag it doesn't. The Official Dutch flag is horizontal Red, White and Blue (as opposed to France, which is vertical Red, White and Blue). The Dutch Royal Standard has orange in it because the royal family is known as the House of "Oranje Nassau".
+2
Level 50
Apr 30, 2019
The Netherlands used to have orange color in their flag but because of the orange dye that had faded a lot on flag fabrics and looked like a light red color, they decided to change the flag and replace the orange bar to the red one. It was long time ago and nowadays they could easily use more durable orange dye but the red remains.

Personally, looking at it, I would say it was more yellow than orange. However, out of curiosity, I had a quick internet search and apparently the official colours (as per the Armenian government) state it is red, blue and orange...
+16
Level 69
Feb 8, 2019
I'm with Henning and Danny on this one. Sure, we all see a yellowy-orange kind of color looking at it, but if *Armenia* thinks and says it's orange – and most importantly, the stripe has a symbolic meaning that depends on it being orange – isn't that actually the most important criteria? I'm sure you've come across that seemingly odd (to us) socio-linguistic phenomena where different cultures have different perceptions of color classifications, like the languages that don't even have different words for, and therefore don't really differentiate between, say, blue and green. I therefore throw my support behind Orangemenia! 🇦🇲 (N.B. Oh, hey – it looks pretty darn orange on the flag emoji, actually…)

Feb 5, 2019

+4
Level 69
Feb 8, 2019
Okay, I argued for Armenia, but I can't for Cyprus. The color country shape on Cyprus' flag is stated to symbolize the rich natural resource of copper on the island, so to me, that pretty clearly indicates they meant the color to be "copper", which is not the same as orange. Flags are all about symbolic meaning, so I think what should be paramount here, as I said in my previous comment, is how the countries themselves describe their flags. That's my 2¢ (in copper pennies)!
+15
Level 65
Apr 6, 2019
Thats like saying maroon isnt red or navy isnt blue. You could argue if coppercolored things are orange or brown though.

otherwise things will get out if control and people could say; my flag is tangerine, ivory, and emerald... etc

+1

But it’s still orange even if it is supposed to be copper unless your colourblind which in that situation I don’t know what to say
+3

By that logic, India doesn't belong here because the color for their flag is "saffron", and not orange. But that's clearly stupid. There might be some debate as to whether "copper" is more orange or brown, but there's a pretty fair argument for it being orange.
