Thanks.

Added Fertile Crescent as a type in for F... since that's also a common term for the area that was the birthplace of Western civilization. And it also happens to start with the letter F, even if it doesn't follow "Hilly."

Fertile Crescent is familiar...don't think I've ever heard "Hilly Flanks". Always good to learn new things!

Fertile Crescent was in pretty much every grade school history text book published through the 80s and 90s at least; Hilly Flanks, though it describes the same area roughly, is a more recent term and not as popular.

I changed the way the answer appears since nobody was getting Hilly Flanks. Should up the percentage.

First off, a great quiz thoroughly enjoyed it. On another point can I suggest Vespatian, zugarat and cuniform or cuneform as spelling options? As I had a tough time on the spelling.

Changed the H clue from "Hebrew" as Quizmaster chose to put that on #1. Had to change clues for "A" and "I" as well since I'd linked them together. Scores probably reset.

Couple problems here, Khomeini wasn't the first Ayatollah, just the most famous in the west – he was the first Supreme Leader of Iran though.

Aramaic isn't a precursor to Arabic, they're from different branches of the Semitic languages, and descendants of Aramaic are still spoken in Arab-majority countries.

true. Though in the West when we talk about the Ayatollahs of Iran we're usually talking about those who have held the title concurrently with being supreme leader, and there have been two of those. To me this is sort of like when people say George Washington wasn't the first president...

re: Aramaic/Arabic, Aramaic was spoken before modern Arabic, even if descendants are still spoken today.

Q seems to be a bit challenging for everyone. How about "Qeshm", the largest island in Iran, and the largest in the Persian Gulf? Qom could also be a wee bit easier.

Qatif would be very easy for me. Never heard of Qeshm. Qom is an answer on a different installment in the series, I think.

Qeshm isn't just some godforsaken rock in the sea. It's a very popular holiday destination with an international airport and tons of interesting sights.
