Maybe in a majority of countries around the world soccer is most popular but there are significant swathes where it's not. Many Latin American countries prefer baseball. India and Pakistan are obsessed with cricket. Japan I think prefers baseball and sumo wrestling. South Korea is also big into baseball and handball though I think soccer might be #1 there not really sure. In the Philippines I think basketball is more popular. In the USA it's maybe the 10th most popular sport if that. Put China, the USA, the Indian subcontinent, Japan and all these other countries together and you might even have a plurality of people around the world that are not big soccer fans.
According this source football (soccer) is most popular in whole South America except Venezuela and Suriname, most of Central America, whole Africa, whole Europe except Finland, Ireland, Baltic countries and Austria and more than half of Asia. There is many signs of soccer coming bigger also in USA, I have seen some stats that its even the most popular sports between ages 15 to 25 but I dont remember the source. There is more young soccer players in US than in any other country in the world.
A bit outdated, Football/Soccer has overtaken your answers in Austria and Cambodia (as of Feb '19)
Also for NZ, it should read Rugby Union, to avoid confusion with Rugby Sevens (7 a side, also run by IRB) and Rugby League (13 a side, separately run sport)
