Cool quiz! Will be waiting to see when this quiz gets featured. Will you do this type quiz with both the Americas (North and South America together), or separate?
+2
Level 47
Jun 25, 2016
I've already made the two North and South American quizzes. But I will see if I can do one for the whole of the Americas.

Cool! Hope you make both the Americas together

Why? Do you then plan to make one for Eurasia? Or Eurafriasia?
+13
Level 52
Dec 14, 2016
I am pretty sure you mean Afro-Eurasia
+3
Level 64
Nov 4, 2017
Both Americas would make sense since many education sustems around the world (like spain) learn the "Americas" as a continent not "north America" and "south America".
+3
Level 58
Nov 11, 2017
Ander, it would make sense to do a single America quiz not only because of the way some people are taught in the world but also because on their own, American map quizzes are short and easy and sometimes leave something to be desired.

Level 78

I was trying to be funny with Eurafriasia - didn't realize Afro-Eurasia was a real thing. It's my personal pet peeve when people want to put "The Americas" together as one continent while maintaining that Europe and Asia are separate. I don't see what's wrong with having an easy quiz now and then, although remembering all the islands doesn't make North America that easy IMO.
+1
Level 67

@ander217 Except that, for historical reasons, the Eurasia analogy is not an apt one. Maybe you're just annoyed that some people see it differently, cause, as it was mentioned above, they were (and still are) taught that way. Also, fyi, it was first considered America as a single continent. The separation made in some countries is a rather recent development.

What happened to Russia? Most of it is part of Asia. You might get away with it in Europe but not in Asia.
+1
Level 64

Russia is on the Europe one, even on the official quiz (the one with an actual map).
+4
Level 72
Jun 27, 2016
They do it weird on this site. Since the majority of Russia's population is in Europe, it's considered a European country. Even though this quiz has nothing to do with population.
+6
Level 63
Sep 26, 2016
It's not like JetPunk came up with the idea to put Russia into Europe. As a European I had to learn the capital of Russia along the others since Russia is part of the map of Europe. And not because of the population but because of it's capital actually being in Europe.
+2

But they do occasionally come up with the idea of taking it out of Asia.

@buck1017 Russia speaks an indo-European language, as you said, most of its population is in Europe, its capital is in Europe, and most of the Russian-identifying population is in Europe. Calling Russia Asian is like calling the United Kingdom during its colonial era North American becuase of Canada.

I guess he had his reasons for leaving Russia off this map, but it really isn't that big of a deal to me. However, if it had been included, I wouldn't have had to sit here searching for my last missing country because the big, white Mongolia-shaped hole in the map would have clued me in!

Russia was originally only in Europe, is culturally European, linguistically European, mostly lives in Europe. It only controls Siberia because it took it away from the people living there. That's like saying the UK is north american because of Canada. Or that the US is part of Oceania because we own Guam.
+1
Level 28
Aug 3, 2020
Actually the US is in Oceania because of Hawaii not Guam
+1
Level 54

DrakiGuy This has nothing to do with language family. If that was what made a country European or Asian, India and Iran would be European.
+1
Level 49
Aug 13, 2020
Ummm.... That analogy is somewhat/very/extremely flawed. Canada is NOT part of the UK. Guam is a territory. The Asian part of Russia, however is 100% undoubtedly and to equal parts a political entity of Russia. Russia is both, in Asia and in Europe. Saying it is only in Europe is (a) eurocentric to Eastern Russians and (b) factually wrong.

Jetpunk logic seems to be a country can only be part of one continent and not more than that. So even though its geographically huge in Asia and its absence is rather noticeable they refuse to include it on any list of countries in Asia.

I know them all, but tend to forget some (easier done when under time pressure and with an empty map..)

I got 43/48 and the average is 42 atm. I think it is that low, not high, mostly because were like me, knowing them all, but some slipped their mind. I think the people that actually only knew a few arent the main reason the average isnt higher. There might be a few of those taking the quiz. But I think 80% know them all>

Timer is a weird thing. Without a timer I could get wayy more countries in a certain amount of minutes, but once a timer is set, especially when it goes under two minutes, my mind puts on the brakes, and or panics. (Reminds me of pets, if you let them go into a box on their own it is fine, but once they are pressured.... in the best case they refuse, in the worse case, mayhem... atleast get my cat in a basket is worse than wrestling a lion or bear haha... but it seems I ve gotten off topic...~-o-~

This is not a complaint, I am just giving advice on which you do not have to take. :)

I’m assuming that it wasn’t included due to 1. Moscow being in Europe rather than in Asia, as Ankara and Nicosia are (at least on JetPunk) and 2. most of the Russian population being in Europe, as the two largest cities by far in Russia (St. Petersburg and Moscow) are both in Europe. On the other hand, Turkey’s two largest cities (Istanbul and Ankara) are both at least partly situated on the Asian continent and Cyprus’ largest cities (Nicosia and Limassol) are both on Asia as well.

Russia is East Slavic; the countries that are majority East Slavic or have large populations are: Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia, Bosnia and Slovenia. None of those are Asian. They originate from the Kievan Rus state. Which was in Europe. Asian culture is either Middle Eastern or Eastern Asian. Saying that Russia is, for the most part, like Iraq or South Korea is extremely false and shows that you know NOTHING about Russia.

1. Palestine isn’t recognized by JetPunk, and thus isn’t on the is quiz. 2. Constantinople is now called Istanbul (it was renamed about 100 years ago, and isn’t the capital of Turkey. 3. The capital of Egypt isn’t in Asia, though the Sinai Peninsula is, while Madagascar has no Asian land.

Madagascar is nowhere close to Asia, but if your argument is that Madagascar was settled by people from what is now Indonesia, then Australia, all of South America, and all of North America would be part of Europe since most people in those countries have some European heritage.
