Showing the Galapagos Islands as Ecuador....... is like showing the Scilly Isles for UK.

No, I draw the line on that one. The Galapagos Islands are not a country. You didn't say "name the country that these islands belong to", you implied that the islands were a country. I mentally went through the list of all island nations and East Timor is the only one. I tried Equatorial Guinea just to be safe. There is no other country starting with E that has any significant portion of its landmass on islands. If the islands aren't a country -- contrary to the hint -- then they could belong to any country that has water -- even landlocked countries (that could be a lake). The hint is too misleading.

You could go with "partial country" perhaps, but the Galapagos have not evolved into a country. Look at the levels of the people complaining about this. We are not newbies. There is a certain syntax we have grown used to from the site, this clue does not fit. We have high expectations of consistency for all the money we pay for this site. Now can we go back to debating whether Cyprus is part of South America with trade ties to Antarctica?

It is a sneaky clue. I got it, but only cos I recognised the islands and knew what country they belong to. One of those that requires a bit of lateral thinking, the type I normally don't get.

I do think that many of our high-level users tend to have a certain style of thinking, perhaps similar to this cartoon. I am that way myself sometimes. :)

Also additional whining about this clue may result in comments being deleted. @Relessness and I put time into making this quiz. There are 18 questions. Sorry if you didn't get one. Life goes on.

The only way I got it was by typing every "e" country I could think of. While typing Ecuador I thought, "That's silly," but typed it anyway to get through the list. It does seem like a "gotcha" clue, but at least I got it correct, unlike the former capital one. I couldn't figure out why East Germany wasn't accepted, and gave up and went on. Duh.

But the line has been drawn. I'm afraid legally there's nothing that can be down after that point short of putting your foot down and I don't think we want to escalate the situation.

There aren't very "E" countries with islands. It took a minute to think it through but I got it using the process of elimination.

Amazing. It looks like whining from beginners but no. With 3 clues it really shouldn't be a problem (first letter, country, image). After doing many other geography quizzes this was an easy one for me. The islands don't look like any country, starting with E or not, then you try E- countries with famous archipelagi and you get the answer. Besides the shape of Galapagos is quite distinct.

I actually agree with Quizmaster on this one, I thought the clue was perfect. The 3 clues immediately preceding it had shown even smaller sections of their countries/cities, so I think the clue was even telescoped well. Now, if the image was a blue outline, a la Estonia's clue, that would be misleading, but this image is fine.

Agree with the above comments re: Ecuador. If you were to show a picture more obviously of the Galapagos, e.g. some iguanas and finches on a beach, that would make sense. The satellite photo is misleading.

The Estonia clue also feels misleading, like it could be a body of water or a type of feature. This quiz is not testing knowledge, it's testing your ability to even get the questions, which seems unfair.

Bonn is a city of 300 000 far in the west of Germany, just south of Cologne on the Rhine, and the birth place of Ludwig van Beethoven. (just kidding, actually Bonn is the capital of Berlin, Cologne is the name of a fashion quarter in Paris, and Beethoven was born in Vienna, son to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart)
