Pretty scary if you are a country full of Jews surrounded by heavily militarized countries committed to your destruction, yeah, I would say so.

"surrounded by heavily militarized countries committed to your destruction"... you insufferable brat, you are so out of touch with reality. Do you even know what the word "surrounded" means? They are mostly surrounded by lackeys like Jordan and Egypt; and two seas. Or are you finally recognizing Palestine as a country like most of the world does? And no, Iran does not surround Israel, nor do Lebanon and Syria even come close to being the aggressors. Your 'poor little Israelites' pitch is so laughable... yeah they're so scared they invaded Sinai, invaded Golan, Netanyahu runs on annexing a third of the West Bank as a campaign promise. International law on one side, Jews and stool-pigeons like you on the other.

@Kalbahamut A more accurate description would be "A nuclear armed Jewish country, that claims territory declared undefined by UN, surrounded by heavily armed Muslim countries." Also, our (the Muslims') stand on the Palestine conflict is not that we are against Jews, it is that we are against the violation of the UN Resolution by the Israelies. Israelites. Israeliites? Whatever they are called. We know not all Jews are against Islam.

@amgine You are so damn wrong. Syria and lebanon aren't aggressive??really? What about the hizballah? Sinai and the golan?? Israel invaded these areas in 1967. Israel is not so scared because it shouldn't be so scared, and you know why? Because Israel is investing more than a half of it's budget on the army, and every 18 years old citizen is obligated to go to the army. But yes, when iran is making nuclear bombs, hizballah and when syria are in the north and Hamas is making new rockets every two seconds, it is not very nice to have these countries and territories close. And that's after Peace deal in 1979.

Hmm, where can you go to enter into a fierce debate about Arab-Israeli tensions ? I know, a light-hearted quiz site !

These comments are barely worth responding to. Will just say that in 1948 Israeli nationalists declared independence, in accordance with international law and their acceptance of the UN partition plan. "Palestine" did not accept the same plan. Days later the 7 members of the Arab League invaded Israel and Palestine, and they made no secret about their intention to make it a war of extermination and that their intent was to destroy the new state. Israel was invaded by every single one of her neighbors. There have been steps forward and backward since then, but obviously the conflict is still not resolved as the posts above prove in spite of themselves.

"Jews and stool-pigeons," very nice. And on the night of Yom Kippur, too; I guess the lessons of similarly-timed attacks back in '73 are forgotten.

I think Quizmaster has decided to mark my recent month in Israel by adding this to the feature list - though ironically including a photo of almost the only famous tourist thing we didn't do! With the tiny inflow and prolonged drought conditions, the Dead Sea is projected to completely dry up in about 120 years, joining the Aral Sea as a famous ex-sea.

You definitely should have gone. I was in Israel for 3 months and visited the Dead Sea 2 or 3 times and it was one of the more interesting things I saw there. Though I also loved Masada and everything in the old city of Jerusalem.

If you treat Crimea as a part of the Ukraine then it would be on this quiz in 20th place, 1244 km away. This quiz treats Crimea as a part of Russia, which puts Ukraine just off the list at 1389 km away.

Not sure if "Can you name the countries whose territory lies closest to Israel?" is the best instruction. Sounds like you are not excluding external territories, in which case UK would be on the list.

Yeah, two actually. But not for the tea - we've moved on from that (was there ever tea in Cyprus?). Our more modern/sophisticated palate is there for the olive oil these days
