Countries whose Closest Country is in a different continent (by Geographical Center)
There's a few countries whose closest country is in a different continent, when distance is measured between their geographical countries. Find such countries and the countries they're closest to!
Data from Portland State University (https://www.pdx.edu/econ/country-geography-data), for missing countries from CIA (https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/fields/2011.html)
Portugal's closest country is Spain and they are both in Europe. Libya and Tunisia share a border and they are both in Africa. Yemen shares border with Saudi Arabia and Oman so how come is Djibouti closer to Yemen when there's sea between Yemen and Djibouti?
Because (see notes) in this quiz distance is measured between their geographical centers, so bordering a country doesn't mean that the distance between them is 0. So it's a "twisted" way of measuring distance but in a way you could more or less say that on average the distance between any point in Yemen and any point in Djibouti is less than the average distance between any point in Yemen and any point in Saudi Arabia. Unfortunately I don't have data that shows minimum distance between all countries.
I'm sorry scambigol. I feel like you have had to say that for every single Geographical Center quiz you've done. :( To everyone, if scambigol makes another in this quiz set, please read the instructions. :)
I’m pretty sure France should be on this list as it’s geographical centre including the integral overseas territories is somewhere in the middle of Africa.
