Country and Capital Neighbour Connect with Jumps and Disappearing World Map: Furthest from Greenwich Meridian

In this quiz country centroids (ie geographical centers) and capitals are combined: countries (country centroids) are 'blue' and capitals are 'pink'.

Always choose the neighbour that is furthest from Greenwich Meridian where a neighbour is any of the following:
- a bordering country
- the capital of a bordering country
- the corresponding country/capital of your last answer

When left with no neighbors jump to a different island! Go to the capital/country that hasn't been mentioned yet and is furthest from Greenwich Meridian.

Start with the country/capital furthest from Greenwich Meridian: NUKUʻALOFA!!

Don't forget that distances on a flat map get 'distorted'!
Dubious India/Sri Lanka and Qatar/UAE borders are not considered
For multiple capitals countries the following were chosen: La Paz, Porto-Novo and Pretoria

Those quizzes are great but I must admit after doing a few of them I still don't understand the difference between "distance" and "distance along parallels"

they're definitions I came up with so I am not even sure how much they make sense! basically "distance along parallels" means the shortest distance from any point to the point on Greenwich meridian having same latitude (eg from 80N 90E to 80N 0E) - as I write it I realize that the shortest distance isn't necessarily by going along the parallel! by "distance" I mean the distance to the closest point on Greenwich Meridian (I haven't checked but from 80N 90E it's probably 90N 0E ie the North Pole). I hope that made some sense! Thanks for your comment

Thank you ! That's much clearer now ! Cool idea for some variation between quizzes :)

Are you really sure that Singapore would be further away than for example Yaren or Majuro? I don't get it, the latitude is not so different and Singapore is much further from the 180° meridian

I checked the data and realized there were some mistakes in the calculations unfortunately, so Yaren is actually the furthest capital from Greenwich Meridian (unless I made some other mistake!). For the 3 capitals you mentioned the closest point on the Greenwich Meridian is actually one of the poles, so it's only latitude that matters. I guess next I'll be submitting a "World Capitals whose closest point on Greenwich Meridian is one of the Poles, with Map" quiz... thanks for your comment!
