1) Each cell is identified by its row followed by its column, so for example the top left cell is ba
2) Whenever it's possible a cell will contain a country that begins with its cell name
3) Names used are the standard jetpunk ones 4) Adjacent includes diagonal borders
HINTS:
1) No island country is adjacent to a landlocked country larger than 1 km2, with one exception 2) In 4 columns there is at least one country whose name begins with its column letter 3) All countries contain the letter of their column 4) In column a the most common name length is 6 letters 5) Niger, Switzerland, at least one country starting with A and the two smallest countries in the world are in this quiz; Italy isn't 6) Each row has a 5-letter country 7) Half the countries adjacent to the country with the longest name in the quiz have a capital city with the same initial letter 8) There are 4 countries from South America
a few times but without giving away spoilers...niger and switzerland were 2,
its hard to say because if i made an entry that was correct based on wrong assumptions I would have taken a bit different path (ie certain countries wouldnt be revealed at the point i needed to type in Niger/Switzerland).
1. you can write from the very start: CE-CU-CY-all the K row-ME-MY
2. KI-KO are island/landlocked bordering, so that’s the one exception, so no more island/landlocked adjacent countries unless they involve the Vatican
3. BA-BO-BU can be filled in as there is only one non-landlocked answer
4. Hint 4 means you can fill in CA-GA-MA as there is only one possible answer of the right length
5. Hint 2 refers to the last 4 columns as the first two are filled in with countries whose initial is the row letter, so you have Oman, Yemen, one I starting country in I and one U starting country in U
6. Hint 5: Niger can only be in I column (as E will be filled in with countries starting with BE-GE), similarly Switzerland, Monaco has to be in column O, Vatican City could be in either I or Y
7. Column O has CO_ and MO_ but you know it contains Oman and Monaco, this means you can fill in GO and MO
8. Hint 8: you have 10 cells to fill in with: BE_ GE_ I_ Niger Switzerland A_ (see hint 5) CO_ GU_ U_ Yemen Vatican: of these only 4 can be in South American so they must all be South American: CO_ GU_ U_ A_ - you can put CO_ and GU_ in their cell, so that leaves only option for U_, you also know that A_ can only go in I
9. Hint 6: CI must contain a 5-letter country, Switzerland is landlocked so cannot border KI so it must go in BI, similarly Niger can only go in CI
10. Hint 6: You have A_ and I_ to fill in I, since MI is the only 5-letter long of the row you can fill in both MI and GI
11. No GE_ with 5 letters so GY must be Yemen, hence Vatican in BY, Benin (only 5-letters long)
reguarding hint 4: it takes 3 because there's 2 that are 10 letters long. or is the way I wrote it ambiguous that it's not necessarily more than other lengths?
Clue 7 is misleading, as I understood it as "half the countries [...] have a capital city with the same initial letter as their country". But of all the countries in question, only one fit that description. It has to be made clear that half the countries start with the same letter of the alphabet.
The hint "No island country is adjacent to a landlocked country larger than 1 km2, with one exception" - confuses me because the only landlocked country smaller than that is the Vatican, and the Vatican doesn't border an island country. Is that clue supposed to read that way?
the 'one' exception is Kiribati-Kosovo (two countries you can write down at the very start). the 'other' exception is indeed the vatican as it borders CY and CU in the quiz - by the way, this is because I had originally placed Vatican in MY and then realized I had forgotten the 'new' name of MYanmar...
I am loving all of your logic puzzles! I think this one was easier to understand for me, because the hints and clues are all in the instructions, rather than having to go off country after country.
Notice how he said: Is ADJACENT to, not borders. He wouldn't put an anti-logic like clue an island country borders a landlocked in a logic puzzle! When he means adjacent, the two countries are "touching each other" in the puzzle. For example, if Iran was a box in the middle, it would be adjacent to the boxes on its right, left, up, down, and diagonals.
And after your country logic puzzles 1 and 2... another GREAT one! For me, this was the most difficult (mostly at the end). I was almost stuck (I forgot that I had to put a country with A, so the south american country had to begin with A and so it doesn't fit where I need 5 letters...), but again no guessing is needed and I appreciate it a lot! THANKS!
(btw i have to take all your logic puzzles untimed... otherwise I would have to guess)

However, MI could be two countries Italy/India both 5 letters long starting with I
Great quizzes keep 'em coming
