What quizzes topped the daily JetPunk takes list?
It’s no surprise to regular JetPunk users that the most taken quiz here is the Countries of the World Quiz. Heck, most of us found the site just by looking for a countries of the world quiz. But I don’t think the regulars take the CotW quiz very often. We yearn for new content, new quizzes to consume, like insatiable barracudas looking to take a big bite of knowledge. If you’re like me, you try to take nearly all the quizzes. And, every so often, there are quizzes that get more takes in a day than the CotW quiz. These quizzes top the daily list because they are so well made and so fun, that users just can’t get enough. Or in some cases they’re silly and easy to play multiple times for a high score! So here they are. The 2023 top daily quizzes!
Quiz: Countries of the World
Takes: 23,195
Date: March 1
Maker: Quizmaster
Description: it’s the big one. It’s why we are all here! It’s JetPunk’s Big Mac, to be consumed by the masses.
Link: you don’t need one.
Countries by Borders, Bordering Sea, Capital Proximity, Official Language or Currency in 30 Seconds
Takes: 19,774
Date: April 15
Maker: Scambigol
Description: Thirty seconds to get all 196 countries using many different strategies! It’s very difficult and requires plenty of trial and error to get them all. This is one of the reasons it got so many takes; JetPunk users took it again and again (which will be a common aspect for all these quizzes).
Notes: It took three and a half months for any quiz to get more takes in a day than CotW.
Find the Mystery Capital Using Color Clues – Randomized!
Takes: 20,150
Date: April 17
Maker: Simon1006
Description: Just one minute to find a mystery capital city, but you get a warmer/colder system of hints. I cannot fathom how this was made to be randomized… wow. Just playing it for fun as I took this quiz made it obvious why this got the most takes that day. I couldn’t take it just once! Again, we have a short, fun quiz that people will want to play multiple times.
Notes: After 105 days of CotW on top, this came just two days after Scambigol’s top daily quiz.
Europe by Borders in 30 Seconds
Takes: 20,357
Date: April 24, 2023
Maker: nichster
Description: Thirty seconds to get every European country by naming them or a country they border directly. I think we see a pattern! Another short quiz that is difficult enough to encourage users to take the quiz several times. The trick is to remember the islands and the enclaves.
Find the Mystery Country Using Color Clues #1
Takes: 23,897
Date: May 15
Maker: peardestroyer
Description: A colder/warmer style quiz which only gives 45 seconds. While this one isn’t randomized, it’s still very well done and hard enough that I’m sure many people took it 3-5 times to solve it (I took two attempts while writing this blog).
Lie to Win - Click Quiz #1
Takes: 20,961
Date: May 17
Maker: Elboy
Description: A non-geography quiz, and a very creative one at that! Having to quickly answer easy questions incorrectly is tough! And again, a short one-minute quiz that encourages multiple takes.
Name a Country A-Z
Takes: 11,463
Date: July 28
Maker: Jato
Description: You have 90 seconds to name a country starting with each letter. It’s a solid idea and fun to write. Interestingly, it’s slightly longer than many of the top quizzes of the day, and doesn’t seem like there’s much reason to take it multiple times in one day. Clearly a lot of people just decided to take the quiz because it’s such a crisp concept!
Notes: this quiz appears to have a perfect 5-star rating, which probably explains why it was the top quiz of the day. Also, it is lower than most other top quizzes because July and August are slower months on JetPunk; in the northern hemisphere school is out for summer!
Find the Mystery Country Using Color Clues #2
Takes: 12,583
Date: August 7
Maker: peardestroyer
Description: It’s the sequel!
Notes: It’s the only sequel to make the list!
Find the Mystery Country Using Color Clues - Randomized!
Takes: 15,787
Date: September 4
Maker: peardestroyer
Description: I think we know what this one is! The third quiz by peardestroyer to be top quiz, giving peardestroyer the title of most top days in the year! Hurrah!
Click Fast to Save the USA
Takes: 29,543
Date: September 20
Maker: Dimby
Description: You just click 166 times in 25 seconds? This is probably the worst quiz to make it to the top of the daily list all year. How’s this even a quiz? It obviously benefits from people taking it over and over again to click fast, I guess.
Notes: This was the most takes a single quiz got in a single day in the year.
U.S. States - Type the First Letter
Takes: 19,238
Date: November 27
Maker: Quizmaster
Description: Want a fast quiz that proves you know where all the states are, but you’re a bad typist? This is the quiz for you! 75 seconds to get 50 states is a rush and it will likely take even geography buffs a couple tries to get them all.
Notes: This is the first Quizmaster quiz of the year to beat the Countries of the World Quiz. It’s nice to see less well-known quiz makers get noticed, ya know?
European Countries by First Two Letters
Takes: 18,831
Date: December 7
Maker: TenThousand
Description: Another quiz with a tight time limit. These speed quizzes obviously encourage multiple takes because they are fun, but hard to ace on a first attempt. This quiz also has a rating of 4.96, demonstrating that not only did it get takes, it got admiration. You have to love quizzes with a straightforward yet innovative premise.
General Knowledge - Think Fast
Takes : 26,610
Date: December 13
Maker: Quizmaster
Description: Another speedy quiz. It looks like the only way quizzes can compete with the CotW quiz is if they are short on time and encourage multiple takes! This is what we all know and love about the general knowledge quizzes… well, except that this has only a minute to get 20 very easy questions. Oh, and it’s randomized, so it encourages many, many attempts.
Note: This was actually the most takes Quizmaster got for a single quiz on a single day for the year, even beating out CotW’s best day. It also takes second place for most successful day for any quiz.
Name the Color, Not the Word (Stroop Test)
Takes: 22,517
Date: December 15
Maker: overtired
Description: The classic psychology test as a quiz. Great concept, great execution. Of course, the pre-quiz animation adds to the charm.
Conclusion
Well, that's that. Only 13 quizzes managed to beat the Countries of the World Quiz throughout the year, making CotW the top quiz 352 times. Excluding that one, the "winner" is peardestroyer, which hit #1 three times in 2023. Nice!
There were two click quizzes, Lie to Win and that lame-O Click Fast to Save the USA. The rest were text quizzes.
Five quizzes had a significant amount of SVG/CSS magic: the Stroop Test and all four color-clue quizzes.
All the top daily quizzes that surpassed Countries of the World were quick quizzes. This isn’t surprising, really, since a quiz would get the most takes in one day if users who see it on the front page take the quiz several times. We can also surmise that JetPunk’s CotW gets a huge amount of its traffic from random people finding the quiz in a Google search, but other quizzes rely more on regular users.
Having sifted through an entire year, looking at the top quiz each day, I can make some general conclusions about when people take quizzes. Weekdays when people are in school get up to twice as many takes as weekends during summer. This site might have a correlation to procrastination. I'm sure most people know that (as you probably read this at work).
On a final note--I love this website and am a bit sad to see that the CotW quiz hasn't passed 23,195 takes in a day, a score it hit over a year ago now. I don't think that translates to less regular users, but just means that less new people are finding the Countries of the World quiz on Google.
"are you sure"
"yeah ok I guess we can save them"
"and finally, the prison population"
