Geography Snap Statistics (January 2023) : The New Game Modes

As many of you know by now, there is a leaderboard in every game mode of Geography Snap. More precisely, the 5 fastest players per day, per week and since the beginning of Geography Snap (not really, more like since 26th October 2020 for the 45 old game modes, and since November 21st for the 144 new ones). Well, the player Changedaworld invented a points system according to the rank of a player in the All-Time leaderboard. Here it is :

1^st place : 7 points

2^nd place : 5 points

3^rd place : 3 points

4^th place : 2 points

5^th place : 1 point

So, here is a leaderboard for all 189 game modes, for January 2023 :

4 players got into that leaderboard in January : emma21, Silcky02, Silcky97 (siblings maybe) and zWallaby. But 10 players got out : BishnuMcgee, Daxzz, DictatorTal, dirkster42, Imthat1dude, Jikinena, Jilb, MiecrafMan, Minutiae & Tmnight. And that is indeed less than in December (thank god).

The player who's the 1^st in the most categories is... Changedaworld, being first in 138 game modes.

The player who's the 2^nd in the most categories is... SilverDog, being second in 113 game modes.

The player who's the 3^rd in the most categories is... Dagod, being third in 116 game modes.

The player who's the 4^th in the most categories is... boepnx77, being fourth in 49 game modes.

The player who's the 5^th in the most categories is... boepnx77 too, being fifth in 56 game modes.

There is only 1 game mode without a 5th place.

Now, here are all the players who are on at least 10 All-Time top-5s :

Out of all 945 All-Time top-5s times, 410 were improved, including 81 World Records !

The greatest gap between 2 consecutive players in an Easy game mode is 4,3 seconds, between Dagod's 6,8 seconds and boepnx77's 11,1 seconds, in Capitals, Shapes & Biggest Cities Easy.

The greatest gap between 2 consecutive players in a Medium game mode is 16,1 seconds, between boepnx77's 16,4 seconds and Mred2025's 32,5 seconds, in Flag-Shapes, Shapes & Biggest Cities Medium.

The greatest gap between 2 consecutive players in a Hard game mode is 28,6 seconds, between boepnx77's 31,2 seconds and Mred2025's 59,8 seconds, in Capitals, Flags, Shapes & Biggest Cities Hard.

The greatest gap between the 1^st and the 5^th in an Easy game mode is 11,1 seconds, between SilverDog's 3,5 seconds and Mred2025's 14,6 seconds, in Capitals, Shapes & Biggest Cities Easy.

The greatest gap between the 1^st and the 5^th in a Medium game mode is 23,3 seconds, between SilverDog's 8,3 seconds and Mred2025's 31,6 seconds, in Capitals, Flags, Flags-Shapes, Shapes & Biggest Cities Medium.

The greatest gap between the 1^st and the 5^th in a Hard game mode is 43,0 seconds, between Changedaworld's 16,8 seconds and Mred2025's 59,8 seconds, in Capitals, Flags, Shapes & Biggest Cities Hard.

The smallest gap between the 1^st and the 5^th in a Easy game mode is 0,6 seconds, between Changedaworld's 3,2 seconds and Batman23's 3,8 seconds, in Countries & Flags Easy.

The smallest gap between the 1^st and the 5^th in a Medium game mode is 2,1 seconds, between Changedaworld's 5,6 seconds and Dagod's 7,7 seconds, in Countries & Flags Medium.

The smallest gap between the 1^st and the 5^th in a new Medium game mode played by 5 players or more is 3,8 seconds, between SilverDog's 4,6 seconds and albinruler's 8,4 seconds, in Flag-Shapes Medium.

The smallest gap between the 1^st and the 5^th in a new Hard game mode played by 5 players or more is 4,8 seconds, between Changedaworld's 18,5 seconds and Silcky97's 23,3 seconds, in Countries, Capitals, Flags, Flags-Shapes, Shapes & Biggest Cities Hard.

The World Record that has been the most improved during January is the Countries, Flags, Flag-Shapes & Shapes Hard game mode, where it has been improved from 23,1 seconds to 14,8 seconds ! That's 8,3 seconds that were cut off !

The game mode where the sum of every time in the All-Time top 5 has been the most improved is Capitals, Flag-Shapes & Biggest Cities Hard, where a whopping 170,7 seconds have been taken off !

The game mode where the sum of every time in the All-Time top 5 has been the most increased is Flags, Flag-Shapes, Shapes & Biggest Cities Hard, where 39,8 seconds were added !

If we add every time in every All-Time top 5, we get to... 12701,4 seconds, or 3 hours, 31 minutes and 41,4 seconds. That's 16 minutes and 55,8 seconds that were sort of cut off during January ! I say "sort of" again, because while 18 minutes and 2,4 seconds were actually cut off during January, 1 minute and 6,6 seconds were added, because of empty leaderboard spots. And if we only take the time of the 1^st in every All-Time, we get to 1810,5 seconds, or 30 minutes and 10,5 seconds. That's 2 minutes and 6,4 seconds that were cut off during January !

In conclusion, this month has been great ! A ton of time saves were done everywhere, and overall the minigame was quite alive during January ! Ok I know you want an explanation as to why I submitted this blog so late ever since you started reading it, so here it is : lack of motivation + school.

Making a blog of the old game modes takes literal minutes to make, as nothing is happening now, but making a blog about all game modes (old + new) literally takes forever (this one took around 12-13 hours to make) because there is a lot more tedious work than in regular blogs. Now, I had 4 months of holidays, so surely I could have done them in that time, but at the same time, it felt weird to publish monthly blogs about 5-6 months after when they should have been published. As more months passed by, the more that gap growed and the more close I was to being back to school, where I thought I would almost no longer be active on the website. But as it turns out, I do have plenty of free time, and now that I'm in vacation again, well, I thought that I'll do my best to publish as plenty as possible. Now sure, the months are now far away, but... I do have the data for them, because for some reason, while I had no motivation in doing these blogs, I still kept gathering data every month, "just in case", and we are today in that case so, I can't promise that all the blogs will be out when my holidays are finished, which is in just two weeks (writing this as of December, 23rd 2023), but I will do my best to publish as many as possible, to make spreadsheets over spreadsheets, and just to continue the series.
