Malaysia vs Indonesia

Both Malaysia and Indonesia are amazing and beautiful countries. Although both countries are very different, they share many similarities as well. Both are in Southeast Asia and border each other. Both share pretty much the same climate, and both are home to large rainforests and long beaches. Here are the pros about both countries.

Malaysia

Malaysia is a gorgeous country. Malaysia borders three different countries (Thailand, Indonesia, and Brunei), and five seas (the Gulf of Thailand, the South China Sea, the Sulu Sea, the Celebes Sea, and the Strait of Malacca). From majestic mountains, to lush green forests. Long, sandy beaches, and broad swampy plains. Islands, Caves and Waterfalls also thrive in Malaysia's warm climate. Malaysia is an amazing country!

Malaysia is full of large rainforests. The oldest of these is the Taman Negara Rainforest. This Rainforest is one of the oldest in the world possibly being around for over 130 million years. In peninsular Malaysia, this lush forest is one of the most popular tourist destinations in all of Malaysia. The Taman Negara Rainforest is home to abundance of wildlife such as elephants, orangutans, and Malayan tigers as well as the Taman Negara National Park.

Mount Kinabalu 

Malaysia is home to many mountain ranges. The main range being the Titiwangsa mountains in  Peninsular Malaysia. These mountains run through Thailand all the way to Malaysia. The Titiwangsa mountains house Mount Korbu, the second largest mountain in the Peninsular at 7,162 feet (2,183 meters) tall. East Malaysia is also home to largest mountains. The tallest mountain in all of Malaysia is here. Mount Kinabalu, at 13,435 feet (4,095 meters) tall, this is the tallest mountain in Malaysia and Borneo.

Rawa Island Beach

Malaysia is home to the arguably most stunning beaches in Asia. Malaysia is home to palm lined beaches with clear turquoise water. Some of the best beaches include Pasir Panjang beach, Pantai Cenang beach, Rawa Island beach, and Kapas Island beach.

Although Malaysia is popular because of its stunning ocean beaches, there are many rivers here. The longest river is the Rajang river at 349.8 miles long. Other rivers include the Kinabatangan river, the Pahang river, and the Perek river.

Kota Tinggi Waterfalls

Malaysia is home to many spectacular waterfalls. There are over 100 known Malaysian waterfalls. Most of the waterfalls are placed within rainforests. The Kota Tinggi waterfalls are flow on the Pelepah river. This waterfall is at the foot of the Gunung Mountain. Other Malaysian waterfalls include the Chiling waterfalls, the Kanching falls, and the Waterfall Mahua.

The Petronas Towers

The Petronas Towers are Malaysia's most popular landmark. These twin towers were the tallest buildings on earth from 1996-2004, surpassing Willis Tower and being surpassed by Taipei 101. The Petronas Towers remain the tallest twin towers in the world. The Petronas towers are a famous landmark in Kuala Lumpur, and will remain the tallest in Malaysia until the completion of Merdeka PNB 118 (expected in 2022). This 88 floor structure was completed on 1 March, 1996 by KLCC Holdings Sdn Bhd.

Kuala Lumpur is one of the Largest cities in Southeast Asia. With a population of around 8 million, this city is the largest city in Malaysia. Kuala Lumpur is also the capital of Malaysia. Kuala Lumpur is the fastest growing city in Southeast Asia in terms of population and economic development. The city is leading in tourism in Southeast Asia, and in 2019 was ranked as the 6th most visited city in the world. Landmarks of this city include the Petronas Towers, the Menara KL Tower, and the Putra Mosque. Multiple different religions thrive in Kuala Lumpur. The main religion is Islam at 46.4%  of the residents practicing this religion. Other practiced religions include Budhism 35.7%, Hinduism 8.5%, and Christianity 5.8%. Many languages also strive among different communities. Most people speak Malay while many also speak English. Among the Chinese population, Cantonese and Mandarin are spoken. While, among the Indian population, Telugu, Malayalam, and Hindi are spoken.

Just like Malaysia, Indonesia is a stunning country. From white sand beaches to green rainforests. Old Volcanoes and vast savannas. High mountains and lowlands are also in Indonesia. Indonesia borders three countries (Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, and East Timor) and many seas. Some of the neighboring seas include the Indian Ocean, the Java Sea, and the Celebes Sea. Indonesia is home to five main islands, Sumatra, Java, Borneo, New Guinea, and Sulawesi. The most populous island is Java at 145 million people. Indonesia is an amazing country!

The Tropical Rainforest Heritage of Sumatra

There are many rainforests in Indonesia. A little more than half of Indonesia's land area is covered in forest (95.6 million hectares). Indonesian rainforests make up the third largest basin in the world behind the Amazon Basin, and the Congo Basin. Indonesian rainforests are home to somewhere between 10 and 15 percent of all the worlds known plants, mammals, and birds. The largest rainforest in Indonesia is The Tropical Rainforest Heritage of Sumatra, or the Sumatra Rainforest. Some animals that live here include the Sumatran tiger, rhino, elephant, and the Malayan sun bear.

Mount Kerinci

There are many volcanoes in Indonesia, 76 of which are active. The most active volcano is Mount Merapi on Java. Since the year 1,000, Mount Merapi has erupted more than 30 times. At 12,484 feet (3,805 meters) tall, Mount Kerinci is the tallest volcano in Sumatra and Indonesia. Mount Kerinci is apart of the Barisan Mountain chain. Kerinci is also very active. The most recent eruptions were in 2013 and 2004. Mount Kerinci is the 10th tallest mountain in Indonesia.

Puncak Jaya

Indonesia is home to many mountain ranges. Mostly on the islands of Java, Sumatra, and New Guinea. The tallest mountain in Indonesia is Puncak Jaya at 16,024 feet (4,884 meters) tall. It is also the tallest mountain on an island on Earth. The mountain is apart of the Sudirman range on the island of New Guinea. Other tall mountains in Indonesia include Sumantri, Puncak Mandala, and Puncak Trikora all on the island of New Guinea.

Kuta Beach, Bali

Indonesia has in my opinion, the most gorgeous beaches in all of Asia. the most stunning are in the island of Bali, near Java. The island of Bali hosts millions of tourists every year. Bali is most famous for it's beaches. Kuta beach, Jimbaran beach, and Bingin beach are some of the most popular in Indonesia. Nicknamed "sunset beach", Kuta beach is famous for it's luxury resorts, restaurants, and clubs. Other stunning Indonesian beaches include Pink beach, Tanjung Gelam beach, and Atuh beach.

Kapuas river

Just like Malaysia, Indonesia is mainly known for its ocean beaches, but just like Malaysia, is home to many long rivers. The longest of these is the mighty Kapuas river. At 710 miles (1,143 km) long, this river is on the Indonesian part of Borneo island. Over 300 different species of fish live in the river basin. Other long Indonesian rivers include the Barito river, the Mamberano river, and the Mahakam river.

Temple of Borobudur

Indonesia is home to 9 UNESCO World Heritage Sites. One of them is the Temple of Borobudur on the island of Java. The Temple of Borobudur is the largest Buddhist temple in the world. The temple consists of nine stacked platforms, topped by a central dome. It is decorated with 504 Buddha statues. This temple was built in the 7th century during the reign of the Sailendra Dynasty.

Jakarta is the largest city in Southeast Asia, and when it comes to metro population, the 2nd largest city in the world following Tokyo, and surpassing Delhi. Jakarta has a metro population of 35 million, and is on the island of Java, the worlds most populous island. Jakarta is both the capital and largest city in Indonesia. Jakarta is one of the oldest cities in Southeast Asia dating back to the 4th century. Jakarta is also facing many challenges such as rapid urban growth, traffic, and flooding. Jakarta is among the top ten fastest growing tourist destinations. Jakarta is home to many landmarks and monuments. Some are: the Istiqlal Mosque, the National Monument, the Jakarta Cathedral, and Fatahillah Square. Jakarta is a melting pot of different cultures. The major ethnicity includes Javanese at 36.17% of the population being of this ethnicty. Other common ethnicities include Betwai 28.29%, Sundanese 14.61%, and Chinese 6.62%. The most widely practiced religion is Islam at 83.43%. Protestantism 8.63%, Catholicism 4%, and Buddhism 3.74% follow. The most spoken language is Indonesian, while just like in Kuala Lumpur, many people commonly speak English. Other widely spoken languages include Javanese, Sundanese, and Chinese.
