Word Search Round-Up - November 2022

+12

Summary of Changes

A major change this month saw the introduction of hexagonal-celled word searches!

This new shape has been utilised in many of the grids this month, with much positive feedback.

Quickfire Stats

  • All 30 word searches were played over 100,000 times in total.
  • Logged-in users represent 57.3% of those takes.
  • 83.1% of takes were submitted before the end of the day.
  • 77.5% of takes achieved 100% status.
  • The easiest grid was Movie Genres on November 7th, with 97.8% of people completing the grid.
  • Similarly the hardest grid was Saturday November 19th with 17.2% completion rate.
  • The hardest non-Saturday grid was Logos on Thursday November 3rd with 36.3% completion rate.
  • Over 22,000 unique people played a single word search this month.
  • 355 people attempted the word search every single day in November!
  • Over 4,100 people played at least 7 of the word searches.
  • The first person to complete the word search each day was once again dominated by Liam with 14 wins. muskox was in second with 5 wins.
  • The fastest word search completed first was by yourrandomkid with just 55 seconds on November 7th! (Movie Genres).
  • The slowest first-completion was, of course, on November 24th with Dog Breeds. It took leafyjean over 2 hours 10 minutes to complete - and yet they still beat everybody else! This is because I was unable to make a grid in time for when the new day started, so no grid was available for the first 2 hours 8 minutes of the day.
  • 46 users achieved 100% in every grid of November.
  • The most-taken word search this month was #288 on November 15th (Capital Cities) with over 4,200 takes!

Unfortunately, I am suspending Community's Choice from this month. Instead, I am opting for free suggestions from all users in the comments. Themes will not be chosen by popularity, or by any other measure other than if I want to do them. If I choose your theme, I will reply to your comment telling you when it will be done!

Feel free to continue suggesting themes throughout the month.

I’m assuming it’s 1 per user or something, but if not, then verbs as well.

Not strictly 1 per user, but please don't just spam 10+ different suggestions in different comments! Since they're not being voted on you can just concatenate them all in a single comment

Did yourrandomkid and leafyjean delete their account?

They haven't made quizzes, so they're not searchable.

Yes, because they haven't made any quizzes. I'll change them to profile links

Since 32-answer word searches are a thing now, maybe a word search with every team that qualified for the FIFA World Cup would work.

This is a great idea! I'll do it on the final day, December 18th.

I would suggest a French President theme, for a Picture Thursday.

I don't know if it has already been made, but maybe a dws with video games' well-known franchises ?

To sort of piggyback on FlabberBapper's idea, a Texas theme?

My ideas: Objects in the Solar System, American Presidents by Picture, and one of these monstrosities you made.

Can't do ones that big in the dailies unfortunately :(

But I will do Presidents by Picture on Thursday 8th!

This one won't be done as it'll be unfair to those who don't make it I think.

I agree with this, but a petty workaround would be just to use the top (insert number of word search answers) quizmakers.

Fair enough, although I for one wouldn't be offended if I missed out.

Maybe a crossword with some influential historical figures that aren't as famous? Sort of like how some Google Doodles work--how today's is Jerry Lawson, who's really not well known but played a major role in the early video game industry. I know this might be difficult or obscure, but since you don't really need to know about said-person beforehand for a crossword, it might work. Maybe you could narrow it down to a specific field of study. I'm not sure, but if anyone wants to build off my idea, feel free.

If that's too weird, then here's a more straightforward suggestion: Famous Scientists.

I genuinely think that would be epic. It would be kind of neat to learn about such historical figures.
