The Question of Life: The Big Bear and the Little Bear

Analysis

Imagine this: Over a ten-second span, a cheetah and a grizzly bear are running side by side. The cheetah can run as fast as seventy miles per hour for a short period of time, while the grizzly's maximum speed is thirty-five miles per hour. Clearly, the cheetah is winning by a mile. This happens surprisingly often - it could be in a race, or a sport, but in many cases, someone is ahead of the other by quite a bit. This is the comparison of the big bear and the little bear.

If you think about it in-depth, the big and little bear theory can be perplexing at times. Basically, it goes like this: one of them is faster, the big bear or the little bear. But which one? This is what we're here to analyze.

Upon first glance, the big bear easily wins the race - it's simply the first thought that comes to mind. The big bear is stronger, more capable, etc . . . but is it really? Think about it deeply. What advantages does the little bear have? The little bear could be a young ursine, eager and playful, with swift and nimble movement. Its small size would allow it to gracefully weave its way past obstacles, or just an open space. Now consider the big bear: it could be fat, plump, obese, hindering any hopes to be quick like the little one. Even if it's not unusually wide, it could have cumbersome movements and would awkwardly lumber. In this case, the little bear would easily win, but . . .

What if the big bear is large, but it is strong, muscular, and capable? Its physical ability might lead it to a win. Add on top of that that the little bear may be young, inexperienced, and naive, and have no idea how to go up against a clever, witty, robust adult. Then, the big bear would win by a mile, and it wouldn't even be close!

So, in conclusion, it really depends on how you think about it. If you think about the little bear's advantages, it may sway you over, but if you think about what the big bear can do right, then you may be convinced that it is the faster one. So there isn't one true answer, it is really dictated by your perspective of the race. Who is more physically capable? What obstacles lie on the path ahead? Et cetera . . . But let me know who you think would win in the comments. Again, this is a weird blog that really serves no purpose, but I think it's kind of important to realize that how you are looking at a situation matters. So I hope you enjoyed the blog, and don't forget to comment!
