The Oh-My-God particle was traveling at 99.99999999999999999999951% the speed of light when it was detected in 1991. Despite being a subatomic particle, it had an energy equivalent to a baseball being thrown at 58 miles per hour.
But what if, instead of being a single particle, it was a baseball? The answer: we wouldn't be standing here today. It would have vaporized the entire planet.

There is a Chinese poem, entitled "Shī-shì shí shī shǐ", that has 92 words - all of which are "shi". The poem is made comprehensible because Chinese is a tonal language - where the same word can be pronounced with many different tones. Supposedly, the poem makes much more sense in Cantonese than in Mandarin because Cantonese has more tones.
#471 Texas is bigger than the 7 countries of Central America combined, i.e. Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama.
It may appear that Texas is bigger than France, but it is not due to the fact that Google doesn't include the territories (i.e. French Polynesia, French Guiana, St. Pierre & Miquelon, New Caledonia, et cetera) and so France is actually 10's of thousands of more square miles than Google says. France is also 10x more powerful than Texas, 10x more beautiful, and on a completely different continent. In many ways, France is bigger than Texas.

The comparison is correct and super interesting, but your measurement from St. Johns to Vancouver is off-- it's just over 5000km, while to Croatia is just under... A related note could be that St. Johns is also closer to Russia (northern tip near Murmansk) than it is to Vancouver
Thanks for putting up my fact Quizmaster! Another cool one: Tardigrades are microscopic animals related to arthropods. They are almost impossible to kill, being able to survive even in outer space and when exposed to extremely high amounts of radiation and pressure!
The longest flight ever recorded, was not even the 9,500 mile trip from Newark to Singapore, or a guy who circumnavigated the world twice from Kansas to Kansas nonstop, it's a Cessna flight which lasted for 64 days long. It took off from December, 1954, and didn't land until February, 1955.
Re: 469: I like the question "Give a sentence with the word 'And' five times in a row?".......... A man checking the sign-writing on his store said " You have not left enough room between 'Jones and and and and and Smith"
#470 It's more intelligible in Cantonese not because it has more tones, but rather more syllables than Mandarin. For example, the words "stone lion" are "shi shi" in Mandarin, but "shek si" in Cantonese.
yeah - in particular can someone explain what qm means when he says 'if the particle were a baseball'? does it mean if the baseball had the same energy in proportion to its mass, or a clump of those particles the size of a baseball, or what?
