I was wondering that too until I checked their percentage of forest cover and in disbelief the images Google presented. I was surprised.

Not surprised so few got Pakistan. Surely there's plenty of forest up towards the Himalayas?
+10
Level 60

Yes there are forests in the north. Lots. But compared to the area of the country, they are less. The mostly deserted provinces of Balochistan and Sindh bring the percentage of forested area really low. But tree plantation campaigns have been launched and I hope that my country will be greener than its flag one day.

Pakistan now at 4.225% according to the FAO. Not sure if they are reforesting or whether the FAO improved their methodology. Afghanistan has taken their place on the list.

Imran Khan seems to be big on reforestation and renewable energy based on his Wikipedia page. I don't particularly like him or agree with him on a lot of things, but this is certainly something I will commend him for.

Yemen might not have a lot of trees, but they've got some of the most wonderful ones - the Dragon Blood Trees on the island of Socotra. Impossible to travel there now due to the war in Yemen, but I'd love to see them one day.

In Garden by the Bays ?

I guess there is Supertree Grove, with the trees of the future, which have light shows and awesomeness, so I suppose they count. There's also the Flower Domes, which have practically all of the country's natural life with the large number of species of plants. Singapore's got both natural and artificial beauty.

Qatar - 0. People who want to plant trees, I think you have a pretty good place to start.
+3
Level 69
Apr 22, 2019
If a place has zero trees (or zero percent tree coverage), it is probably not very hospitable to trees. People who want to plant trees are likely to have more luck if they start in a place where trees recently were, like Brazil.

Plus another 12 km2 of forest here. These two areas alone amount to 0.22% of the area of Qatar, but there are more mangrove forest areas as well.

I started a lovely little garden in my garage in Riyadh but after about two weeks everything had died except for the mint in one corner and the little tree I had planted in the other. The tree lasted another 2 months, the mint 6... until ants moved in and ate all the roots.

+1

There was light in the garage, the area with the garden was covered but it wasn't completely enclosed. In Saudi, if anything, there's usually an overabundance of sunlight, so being in the shade most of the day is better. Still, it's a very harsh environment and my thumbs are some color other than green.

Actually, there is plenty. There is a massive Nature reserve smack bang in the middle of the island and the entire northwestern part is pretty green too.

I get where the missconception is comming from, with it being a city state with one of the largeat population densities in the world. But we live in an era when we can correct these missconceptions with one look at a satelite image or a single google search. But also, we live in an era when people are too lazy to do even that.

Amazed that Kazakhstan of all places has so few forests, and particularly that it has fewer forests than the desert country of Turkmenistan! It seems quite green in most of the pictures you usually see.
