not "some" people... all people.. they are countries by law and by rule so they are countries... it's not down to interpretation or opinion, they are countries
They are countries, but a lot of them are actually principalities, which are a type of country, so sometimes you'll see them called principalities rather than nations or countries, but they are just as sovereign as the larger countries around them. Although in some cases they kind of have to follow the orders of the larger countries around them, like the Vatican (not a principality) which is a country that is separate from Italy but kinda has to obey Italy because it would be in a bad place if it didn't.
Which is an incorrect use of quotations, but I don't think that's what Kal was trying to do as his punctuation is impeccable.
Putting something in quotations like this is a passive aggressive way of implying that whatever something's official status, it doesn't really deserve that status.
If I say something like 'he really likes the "singer" Taylor Swift', everyone knows I'm questioning Swift's singing abilities in a snarky way.
Similarly here, the intent was to slyly question the right of smaller European countries to be considered as such. I don't know why Kal doesn't just own that, instead of pretending he was just 'accurately quoting'.
If you try my first quiz they won't look as big as before, because I compare them by livable/habitable area (climate-wise). I also let the Australian States/Territories participate, so it's very interesting:
kalbahamut has a clear hatred for Europe. I've noticed he constantly posts negative comments about Europe, things that aren't even worthy of criticism.
Just puts into perspective how big the USA really is. We know it's big. We just don't know how big it truly is. All that empty, vast, unused land roams around in most of those states. Like Nevada. Most of the state is a desert. Yet, we still underestimate the sheer size of the desert that Nevada lies on. Go out of Vegas, Reno, Carson City, and drive 30 minutes, and it's like you're in foreign territory. Truly impressive! Well, unless you needed an emergency. Then you're screwed. But still impressive!!
The yanks do that when they want to calculate "land area" to the exclusion of inland water - makes their country #2. However, I argue that what is the water sitting on then? A fifth dimensional vortex?
In total area, the USA is the fourth, in land area, the third. It's also the third in water area, if you're interested. Also, land area is a better measure of a country's size (in my opinion) as it shows area that can be used for most purposes, excluding only fishing and other related activities.
I'm sure the middle of the Sahara Desert or Amazon Rainforest can't be used for most purposes, and yet Algeria and Brazil are still some of the largest countries in the world...
Oh great, another English person who couldn't stand his living god George III going insane about America so they act just like him. Notice I didn't say "British" because that's a term only the English use to describe themselves.
Living God? You’ll find that us Brits have mostly put all that religious nonsense behind us. Unlike, er, some people. We just keep a remnant of the monarchical glitter going because it allows us to sell trinkets to tourists the size of houses.
Well European park of Turkey (East Thrace) is obviously smaller than any of the countries/states on the list, so is the European part of Kazakhstan (a lot of people seem to think Kazakhstan is completely Asian - although this is also disputable)
It is funny how the borders and sizes of the first US states are far more like Europe, but then as we started settling the territory added from the Mexican-American War, we just made lots of large, box-shaped states like Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, New Mexico, etc. States born out of lines on maps and not rivers or natural borders like much of Europe and like much of the earliest-settled states on the east coast.
if you do include overseas territories, denmark jumps from nowhere to 2nd, france has a total of 661,000km2 putting it ahead of ukraine but still in 5th and uk moves up 2 places to 261000km2 (all excluding any claims to antarctica).
First of all, Finland is by area over 20 000 km2 larger than implied on this quiz and also larger than Poland. Also larger than Norway but only if Svalbard is excluded.
I suspect those figures are including water, which this quiz doesn't. Alaska's area, for example, is roughly a whole Italy smaller than is usually given, thanks to all of its lakes.

please give me feedback on this one as I may want to produce a whole series of it. Thanks
I can't believe Nevada and Colorado made it but not Wyoming or Utah, they always seemed as big.
I had all but Italy and Nevada.
Happy little accident!
