If these answers are accepted the type in system needs a serious overhaul.

I wouldn't say serious. Maybe a few places could use tweaks. It would be relatively easy, for example, in the case of double letters to change "accepts any number of m's in a row" to "accepts one or two m's, but not more than that." Other changes might be trickier to write as a regex.
