Yeah. Even though it's tough for Nigerians to leave the country, they seem to be everywhere.

5 million Syrian expats? Are people fleeing a warzone for survival really expats?

I think so by a literal definition of expats, although I agree that "expats" is typically (casually?) used to refer to non-refugees. That's just my feeling though.

Even before the war, judging by the number of them I saw working in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, I wouldn't have been surprised to see them on the list.

Interesting. I've met a lot of Arabs from different countries but don't think I've ever met a Syrian.

The guy selling kebab on the corner here in Patong (Phuket) is Syrian, too. But there are hundreds of thousands in Saudi. I worked alongside many of them there.

When I originally wrote the quiz I used 'emigrants'. Quizmaster changed it when it was featured.

I believe expats are usually abroad for professional reason, jobs or education. Emigrants can have a variety of reason. So that would perhaps be a better fit.

Atleast that is the way I have allways come in contct with the word. People living in another country for a short time to further their career/learn things.

Although New Zealand is not on this list, I think they should get a special award for having the greatest percentage of citizens living abroad e.g. almost 700,000 in Australia, 80,000 in UK, 20,000 in USA and an estimated 40,000 in the rest of the world. That is 840,000 from a total population of 4,600,000........ 18% live abroad.

For the sake of a good trolling (not serious), I am going to say that Australian and Kiwis are practically identical so 700,000 in Australia doesn't mean anything....BURN TO ANY KIWIS ON JETPUNK!!

12 million Mexicans living abroad (in the United States I'd assume) is such a ridiculous number. Say what you will about Trump, but I think limiting such a ridiculously high number is a good thing as the US continues to lose its national identity.

Embracing Trump, who is the living antithesis of everything good about America and all of the values the country was founded upon or that ever made it great, is the surest way for the United States to lose its national identity.

and that's to say nothing of the fact that he's obviously a Manchurian candidate advancing the agenda of America's and Western democracy's greatest enemy since the end of WW2. Shocking and shameful how completely some have sold out everything they believe in in the name of everything they believe in...

Also, the United States is not losing its identity with mexicans. The USA was and still is a land of emigrants.

Exactly, Matthew. The USA was a nation of ideas and ideals, not of one "race," language, or religion. And that is one of the things that makes the country unique and in my opinion one of the things that made it great.

There's a case to be made for corporate greed. No need to label it American... Europe has banks, too. Russia is less amorphous an enemy, though. And they absolutely are and have been actively working to bring down Western democracy for decades and recently have enjoyed unprecedented success in this endeavor (to the applause, approval, or indifference of many people misled or kept ignorant by the aforementioned corporations).

Wait a minute, Lumi, please. All of those complimentary adjectives that you ascribe to America are not solely ours. Remember the British Empire, Belgian Congo, French Indochina, Spanish Empire, and most of the rest of Europe's Colonial days and the vast amount of wealth that was siphoned off and the misery that was inflicted on the native populations all in the name of the things that you mentioned. It hasn't stopped yet. I used to make my mortgage payments to HSBC (speaking of transnational) - not the most cooperative banking institution that I have ever encountered. I'm not saying that those things don't happen in the USA, they do. I'm just saying that in this discussion, there should be no finger pointing - there are no clean hands.

"There's a case to be made for corporate greed."

This doesn't make a lot of sense now as I think the comment I was responding to is gone. I was not trying to say that corporate greed is a good thing or underrated. :) I think the missing comment was responding to mine calling Russia America's greatest enemy since the end of WW2. This person (Lumi) responded and said that America's greatest enemy was American greed. And other unsavory things they were trying to label as American, judging by POOCH's follow-up.

It really isnt clear, atleast for me, if you meant Countries that have the most people living there that come from another country or countries of which most people decided to live elsewhere.

Only after seeing pakistan so high (Which I tried after getting india after just trying the big countries) I realised you meant the other way around. Countries of which the most people have left, not countries where most people have moved to, which it seemed to describe (to me, when reading the description)

(Because the country they move to, "has people living in another country than they were born in".)

The instructions should make it clear, though the title is a little confusing. But it's the latter (countries with citizens living abroad)
