I've heard about #4 before and I was shocked! Then I've read the official version of the constitution and it was even worse. They even refer to New Zealand as a colony! I guess the Australians really want their empire!
New Zealand was always intended to become part of the Commonwealth of Australia after it's federation, and so I think it was included in the constitution to save coming back and rewriting it later on. However, this plan never came to fruition, likely because the New Zealanders didn't want to be so closely associated with the 'racist' Australians and their treatment of the Aboriginal people, after NZ had just come to peace with the Māori's.
YAYY another great New Zealand quiz! Just one thing, I’m pretty sure it’s less than 2 kilometres wide, but greater than 1 kilometre wide. If you could tell me how it’s less than 1 km then that would be retreat but I don’t see where it’s less than a km on the map.
I'm glad you enjoyed it! The narrowest distance runs the length of Portage Road in Otahuhu, about 800 metres (and if you know what a portage is that makes perfect sense!). Add another 100 metres of reclaimed land on the west side for the railway yards, and that's it. Note that googlemaps is deceptive, because the map doesn't show the full extent of the tidal creek on the eastern side - it'll be more obvious if you switch to satellite view.
I guess having to lobotomise your entire population in order to qualify was a step too far.
