Country and Capital Neighbour Connect with Jumps and Disappearing World Map: Closest to ⬤

In this quiz country centroids (ie geographical centers) and capitals are combined: countries (country centroids) are 'blue' and capitals are 'pink'.

Always choose the neighbour that is closest to ⬤ where a neighbour is any of the following:
- a bordering country
- the capital of a bordering country
- the corresponding country/capital of your last answer

When left with no neighbors jump to a different island! Go to the capital/country closest to ⬤ that hasn't been mentioned yet.

Start with the country/capital of the world closest to ⬤: SUDAN!

The dot was picked at average latitude/longitude of all countries/capitals
Dubious India/Sri Lanka and Qatar/UAE borders are not considered; overseas borders are considered
For multiple capitals countries the following were chosen: La Paz, Porto-Novo and Pretoria
Jumping idea from Eutychus
Don't forget that this map can heavily distort distances!!

something is wrong with this quiz. could just be your directions but the logic of what is the next choice escapes me. there doesn't seem to be a pattern of what to choose next, it certainly isn't just the nearest country or capital. why would it be the capital of the same country you just picked? I only gave it a few minutes and gave up as it just didn't make sense.

Seconded. You claim that it's "the closest to X", but in what universe is Sana'a closer to the centroid of Saudi Arabia than Riyadh? Then Yemen is supposed to be closer to Riyadh than Qatar/Bahrain? It's about half again further away just to the Saudi-Yemeni border, much less the centroid.

Then again in >South Sudan>CAR>N'Djamena, where the first two are very close and the third one is clearly outright wrong, which makes me start doubting the others.

So it's like the answer is what you're claiming it is unless you felt like arbitrarily making it any of the other valid neighbors. That's not really a quiz. That's like "guess the random order of the countries with no hints". Because you *usually* stick to the order, the answers are somewhat guessable. Because you do not always stick to it, the quiz is neither fun nor interesting.

Think you need to go back to the drawing board with this one and figure out what went wrong with the answers. Either that or explain the missing rule(s).

I think I've figured it out. It's the bordering centroid/capital that is closest to the black dot we start at, NOT closest to the previous answer.

It's impossible to make any sense of the rules. Why do we go to San Marino after the Vatican, and then we jump to Turkey?!?

Hi, the capital of Burundi is Gitega, it was moved there from Bujumbura a few years back. Please at least accept it?

Seems like the idea was good in your head but I cannot make sense of the instructions. I think it's supposed to be the next capital/country midpoint to the last one guessed, but then why, for example, was Georgia following Moscow?

I second this. Gave up after a few minutes, I couldn’t understand it

It's the capital or centroid of the last country guessed or a bordering one. After Moscow, your choices are the centroid of Russia, the centroid of any bordering country of Russia and any of their respective capitals. Of this subset, the centroid of Georgia is closer to the black dot than any other point. The same logic then applies but with the new starting point of Georgia, so we head south yet again into Armenia.

At the point of reaching the end of a specific landmass the system resets to whatever country/capital is closest to the dot and the tour through bordering nations starts up again.

It is a complicated ruleset and admittedly it took a couple of attempts to fully understand it myself, but the further I've got with each attempt the more I've started to grasp the concept and as such, it's much more enjoyable now.

I'd have to agree, it seems like a good idea and looks like it could be an excellent quiz, but I can't make sense of the instructions either.

The goal is to always name the country/capital closest to the dot, while naming a country or capital, that touches the previous answer. so for example, when Saudi-Arabia has been, of the options that you have (including Sana'a and Riyadh), Sana'a is closer to the dot than all the other options, so that is the answer. When there is no more bordering options, you jump to the answer closest to the dot. Hope this helps!
