Red light district is just a generic term for an area of legalized prostitution and they occur all over the World. Although Amsterdam has the most famous red light district in the World, it's actually called De Wallen. Don't ask me how I know this...

"during the American Revolution", I dunno, that's like defining legions as "top-level Roman units during Caesar's conquest of Gaul", excludes most of their history

Excuse my ignorance, but do you mean that they historically referred to themselves as Redcoats? I always had the impression that was just an American put-down.

Yep, they did - common usage across much of Britain's colonial territory and in the wars fought through that era. And it's not much of a "put down" either...

Not to start a discussion, but you could say the same for the color/teint of people's skin. The colour is what the color is. Same for hundreds of other examples, once a word has been used in a derogatory way eventhough it is exactly what it describes.

Sifhraven, you just *ended* the discussion! What Sif said is exactly what I meant. There are many, many ways that we could describe a person or group of people that would be technically correct, but that *nobody* would mistake as being meant in a neutral way.

1) They don't compare to Caesar's army.
2) Very little of the English army's "entire history" fell within the red coat uniform.

It's sad to see Red Baron as less than 60% correct. I happen to be a teenager but I only knew the answer from reading Peanuts cartoons. Sad to see that more people don't do this...

No little red riding hood? I am sure this list isnt conclusive, but when asked to think of things with red in the title she would score very high. (Maybe 50% will say red riding hood and the other 50% red wine hahah)

I've never heard of the term 'red-eye' to refer to a flight, yet it was the first thing I attempted to type in. It just seemed so fitting.
