ALL ABOUT PEPSI
Brought to you by MrBLOGGER
Introduction
Pepsi is one of the most popular soft drink chains in the world, sold in almost every country, and has been featured on commercials, vending machines, and billboards. Pepsi is known for its caramel color and its rich sugary taste. This blog will tell you (almost) everything about PepsiCo!
Products
Pepsi-Cola, or PepsiCo, is known for having many other brands. Not only drinks though, they also own snacks. Let me cover the drinks first though.
Juices: Tropicana, Dole
Sports Drinks: Gatorade, Propel
Ginger ale: Patio, Schweppes
Root Beer: MUG
Iced Tea: Lipton, Brisk
Bottled Water: Aquafina
Lemon Lime: Sierra Mist, 7up
Orange: Tango, Tropicana
Pepsi also controls many snacks like Frito Lay, Quaker oats, Cheetos, Ruffles, Doritos, and some Starbucks drinks.
Ingredients
Let's address the obvious here. Pepsi isn't exactly a healthy drink. Although very delicious, an average can of Pepsi has 41 grams of sugar. In comparison, this is a bit more than Coke. This can be a bad thing because Pepsi has no vitamins or any nutritious ingredients at all. Overall, 14% is sugar, 1% is sodium, and the rest being syrup and carbonated water. Each can have 150 grams or 12 fluid ounces. All of this applies to caffeine-free Pepsi but taking out the caffeine part.
History
Early Days
Technically speaking, Pepsi was first founded in 1893 by Caleb Bradham in New Bern, North Carolina. Originally, it was called "Brad's Drink". He sold it in his drugstore; because, during the time, it was a pain killer for the stomach, aiding the drug called Pepsin. In 1898, he renamed it Pepsi cola. In 1903, all the action happened. His business moved to a warehouse, then he started selling the drink in six-ounce bottles. His business was going very great. He sold over 7,000 gallons of syrup that year. The next year, it sold 19,000 ounces. Every year, the number went higher. Bradham was now very successful. The advertising theme was, "Delicious and Healthful". All was going great until...
World War/Cold War era
In 1923, Pepsi became bankrupt. The reason was because of all the fluctuating sugar prices because of World War One. The funny thing is that Pepsi was offered to be bought by Coca-Cola, but Pepsi denied the request every time. That's what sparked the Pepsi-Coke rivalry (more on that in the next section). However, during the great depression, the brand prospered, now selling more 12 ounce bottles. In the 1970s, Pepsi bottles now only costed 5 cents or a nickel. The drink for a nickel became publicized as a popular tune for Pepsi. That explains why during this time, Pepsi's marketing was a hit too.
Modern Era
Everything for Pepsi was going great. In 1965, Pepsi merged with Frito Lays, a chips company to form PepsiCo. During this time, PepsiCo bought/owned many other companies. They moved their headquarters to Purchase, NY. They own 22 companies now. They changed their logo a couple of times, but in 2008, they finally changed their logo to the modern one they use right now.
Rivalry with Coke
At last, we talk about the Cola Wars or the rivalry of Coke and Pepsi. It started in the 1970s when both companies became very popular. Fast-food chains were stricken whether to choose Pepsi and Coke. There was a Pepsi challenge, in which people were blindfolded and they had to drink both Coke and Pepsi. Pepsi was the dominant winner. However, Coke struck back with all its new, high tech vending machines; Pepsi is still behind in its vending machines.
Then comes the products. Interestingly, Coke has many products which are very similar to each other. Many people cant tell the difference. Example: Sierra Mist vs Sprite, Sunkist vs Fanta, and Gatorade vs Powerade.
So...which one is better? Well, according to the markets, Coca-Cola is more popular around the entire world, but Pepsi is more popular in the US. Pepsi is more sweet then Coca-Cola, so you coooooould say Pepsi is the winner (no offense Coke fans). Which do you like better?
Fun Facts
