The Falkland islands had been a British colony for 142 years, But Argentina was very angry for losing their islands, so the dictator of Argentina, Leopoldo Galtieri, Invaded the Falklands and took over them, probably because the British have been de-militarizing the the islands. The British prime minister Margaret Thatcher, made an exclusion zone around the islands, to stop any Argentine warships from entering or leaving the islands. the first deaths of the war were in the sinking of the Argentine warship ARA general Belgrano, OUTSIDE the exclusion zone, after that, the Argentine navy left the Islands. the British then had to secure the airspace over the islands, which they did. After this, argentine Jets sank the British HMS Sheffield in retaliation.
The British Ground invasion soon followed, as a small SAS raid on Pebble Island was carried out, and the main invasion point at San Carlos. The British successfully pushed through, and started moving forward towards Pt. Stanley, and separately south for Goose Green. The British took Goose Green within 14 hours. the British then reached and laid siege to Pt. Stanley. the Argentine forces there soon surrendered, ending the war.
