Maybe people just notice those more because they are less used to them, so they stand out more than others to us. Because of that, our brains pay more attention to them, and less to the ones we know, making it seem as if there are more of the ones we are unsure about such as the African and Oceanian ones.

54 is a bigger number than 45. It's also a bigger number than 48 (the number of countries in Asia), 23 (North America), 12 (South America), or 14 (Oceania). Identifying Europe as the "smallest" continent is quite misleading as it's actually near the top in terms of the number of countries it has. My statement stands. Africa has a ton of countries. Much more than any other continent, and more than 4x as many as some.

I got no Oceania and the only one in Africa was where it should say Abidjan but now says Yes Master or something. A lot of easy to read Anglicized names. You know all these countries are pulling the wool over our eyes with these "phonetic" spellings. For example, the Chinese city of Luòshānjī. Whoops, that's how they say Los Angeles. So instead of Chongqing, why can't we just say Chungking again? They wouldn't understand either way we pronounce it under either spelling anyway.

+1
level 43
Sep 10, 2017
Yes. I pointed that out via email to the Quizmaster, but he said there isn't really anything they can do. I suggested that going off the page would automatically end the quiz, but he states that would be unfair because they may have something to do, like answer an email in the middle of a quiz or accidentally click on another page. We have to rely on people abiding by the so-called honor code, by being honest and not taking advantage of this. One way the Quizmaster has tried to limit cheating is only having 3 pauses, but maybe it should be limited to one.

-thisisnotanaccount: you can pause by hitting that arrow next to the text box. -adrmcmc: someone might have lost track of what time it was and started a quiz, but then had to leave. Or, in my case, I would have to pause because I would start a quiz while waiting for my teacher, and I'm in the middle of a quiz when he/she gets back.

Suggestion for the QM, would it be OK to include an abbreviation for United Arab Emirates? UAE would be much quicker and easier for some less learned users. You could also just accept "Emirates" too.

You may call it 'random', but some capitals appear much more often than others ;).

I've typed in Mozambique for Maputo and Sri Lanka for Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte and neither were accepted! What's the point if CORRECT answers are being ignored?

Random Capital to Country quizzes (a favourite) no longer show the capitals, it appears as a blank grid! Makes it pretty hard, I did try once, sadly got 0%! Not sure if its my computer or the quiz generator.

I got Gitega, which was like "wut" at first, cause I was sure I knew every capital city of every country. Then I just ended the quiz cause I didn't know what it was. Then it said Burundi, and I thought maybe Burundi just recently changed it from Bujumbura to Gitega? But no, just a second capital.

I read that the Burundi government wanted to move the capital from Bujumbura to Gitega to have a more centrally located capital city. I'm not 100% sure if that is correct though.

Excellent! Got them all with 2:20 remaining at 11:00:21 AM on April 13, 2019. Now I am up to 1152 points! I ended up with a lot of smaller countries as the answers, though since I have lately been memorizing capitals, this quiz wasn't so bad. The capitals I was given were Bern, Madrid, Porto-Novo/Cotonou, Bishkek, Vaduz, Juba, Prague, Maputo, Cairo, Lima, Riyadh, London, Panama City, Harare, New Delhi, Luanda, Monrovia, Tokyo, Mbabane, and Dakar. Good job to ayone who can pass this quiz. The random geography quizzes require one to know countries and capitals thoroughly and completely, for any circumstance.

And ashgabat sounds very similar to azkaban in my head haha (only the last letter is wrong)
